I think the last noir classic I sat down to watch was Out of the Past. Gorgeous Jacques Tourneur direction with a very menacing and impossibly young Kirk Douglas.

Even better on the second viewing.

GOAT! Watch this, then read the books, then come back and watch it again. Incredible film.

M
Double Indemnity
Postman Always Rings Twice
White Heat
Angels With Dirty Faces
Gaslight (the source of the now overused term)

Orson Welles was a master. You must watch:
The Stranger
Lady from Shanghai
Touch of Evil (greatest technical opening scene in film history... it's all one tracking shot)
The Third Man (as an actor, not director)

I guess LA Confidential would fall under neo noir but it feels like a classic noir.

Romeo is Bleeding would as well. Very underrated and amazing acting by Lena Olin and Gary Oldman

If we're doing neo noir, here's three I lump together:

Body Heat
The Last Seduction
Black Widow (1987) (honorable mention)

There's also the damn entertaining Sin City movies.

The Big Sleep, Out of the Past, and Double Indemnity are canon. The Big Sleep was Hawks only film noir.

I love the noir genre.

Check out "Fallen Angel" with Linda Darnell and Dana Andrews. Linda was in "A Letter to Three Wives", a really good film.
