I haven't seen this mentioned on here yet. Pretty interesting documentary Mariska Hargitay made about her mother's life. Definitely some family secrets type of shite in there that I've never heard before. Worth a watch.

It’s very well done. Not something I’d normally watch but did so for the NOLA connection to wreck. There’s some surprises for sure which I won’t give away.

One new detail about the wreck was kinda interesting. Only 2 of the children were originally rescued and while in transport to the hospital one of them woke up and asked where his sister was. They turned around and the little girl was then found under the front passenger seat with head injuries.

They gave her measurements in the show as 40-21-35. Which is ridiculous. I've never thought she was the prettiest, but her figure was stunning.

That image is doctored. Of all the things that should be considered impressive enough not to doctor it should be Jayne Mansfield's tits.

The really famous pic is of Sophia Loren giving her the impressive side eye at the same event.

I watched the doc and listened to her recent interview on Marc Maron's WTF podcast.

My takeaway from it all is that Mariska's dad Mickey is the hero of the story. Runner up is Mickey's later wife, Ellen, who was Mariska's stepmom and really raised her. They both came across as truly great people.

I had no idea before watching that Mickey was a sort of Arnold Schwarzenegger of his era. Emigrated from Hungary to the US. Became Mr. Universe 1955, followed by acting and marrying a celebrity.

And in an interesting side note, Schwarzenegger then "became" Mickey Hargitay by playing him in a 1980 TV movie starring Loni Anderson as Jayne Mansfield:

Enjoyed the heck out of the HBOMax documentary, by the way. Got a little misty-eyed at parts, too.

For those interested, there is a small, fan-built memorial along US 90 at the location of the accident, just west of the Rigolets bridge, catty-corner from the Island Marina and Store:

You can find it on Google Maps/Google Earth.
