How so? The people it will hurt are the people who aren't paying for it so Netflix isn't seeing revenue from them anyway. This is just going to piss off a bunch of freeloaders. That doesn't hurt Netflix.

Except for the people who use the family account at school or who own two homes or who travel. So now I can’t use my Netflix account on my laptop at a hotel or if I’m on the road or something?

That’s basically what they’re saying. Each physical location needs a Netflix account or be charged a fee.

They could do like Apple+ using some kind of two-factor authentication

I share my password for Apple+ with my sister who lives in another state. When she added Apple+ to her Roku. Apple sent a text to my phone saying someone was trying to login in using my account. I had to approve her login and text her the numeric code to complete the login.

If I pay for four simultaneous streams, why should it matter where those streamers are located? I am already paying for their access

You may underestimate the number of people who it's not worth paying for on their own. We share an account with my sister in law. It's not worth it for either of us to pay in full. If they raise our rates for sharing, we'll just cancel.

Instead of making a few more dollars per month, they will lost $20. I'm far from alone in that.

Same. I have a kid in college using our account. I’ll drop it before paying a fee for a member of my immediate family.

When I want to watch YouTube TV out of town it asks me if I’m there temporarily and I get a week or so (IIRC) to use it. I wonder if that’s how Netflix will get around traveling?

That’s my question, if you pay for more than 1 stream, what doesn’t it matter where that stream comes from.

They are going to cut off their nose to spite their face with this one.

I’m on a family shared one and it wouldn’t be worth it to pay for a sole account. As little as anyone watches, they’d likely agree and just say F Netflix.

My dang Netflix account has been deactivated for months and got hacked and reactivated today. Charged my debit card so I immediately went in and changed everything. Canceled and started to dispute the charge then decided to just keep it so I could finally watch the latest season of Ozark

How will they determine this? I don't share a password with anyone, but does this mean I can't log in to my Netflix on my parents' TV when visiting them without being charged an extra fee? If that's how this will work, I'll definitely be canceling.

Netflix has been the worst big streamer for a while now. Having a hard time seeing how this isn’t going to blow up in their face… In fact some people may feel more inclined to keep a service cause of the value of providing it to some friends and family so they are happy to pay monthly - I could easily do without Hulu but family members use it so I let it ride. If they tried to target me for this and raise prices it would be the catalyst to tell my family sorry, I’m going to cancel it :/

I would pay Netflix to see the real viewing numbers on all their LGBTQIApoopypoo to satisfy my curiosity - I suspect their is a massive misuse of capital and they are not acting in shareholders best interest

How are they going to police this? If I’m traveling and watching in GA, and my kids are watching on the Apple TV at home, is this going to flag as a “shared” acct?

They may make some money at some point, but it seems like most people would just do without as opposed to paying more. Especially with the amount of other streaming platforms there are out there these days

That’s what I’ll do. BIL pays for Netflix and hulu, I pay for HBO. We’ll just dump Netflix. I don’t think I’ve even logged into it in months. Only show I like on there is The Wtcher. I can binge that soon, then just stop logging in.

Netflix is continuing to try and squeeze its US customers while practically giving it away in other countries

It seems they once killed a competitor that was feeing their customers to death and generally pissing them off

I told my kids I’m canceling Netflix after stranger things season. I almost pulled the trigger after better call Saul season 5. But we’ve been watching HBO max. Not sure how they will handle not having Disney +’when the new obi won show drops.

Exactly. I thought the different # of simultaneous stream tiers was a smart way for them to get extra money from those who “password share”

Moving beyond that and trying to squeeze extra $ would just cause more headaches and anger from accounts

When they get rid of account sharing I’ll just cancel, and go back to torrenting the 1 out of 50 shows they put out worth watching. The only reason I keep it is because my family uses it.

Same. I can't even remember the last time I used my Netflix account - maybe the first season of the Witcher. But my parents and younger sister use it. I'll cancel if they want to charge me an extra fee for that.

I'm amazed at how cheap some people are. It's less than $20 a month and provides great content.
