Makes it even worse when you find out it took Burt Reynolds like 40 takes (supposedly) to do the goodbye scene because Judith Barsi had already tragically died by the time they were wrapping up the film and he was so heartbroken over the situation and was saying goodbye to her through character.

Shughart getting overrun by skinnies was far more traumatic to see on the big screen than anything else

I was traumatized when I found out that professional wrestling was scripted.

Two made for tv movies from the late 80s I saw when I was around 10, still affect me. Istill think about them even though I have not seen either in more than 30 years. Both were about hurting children.

More obscure, but mine was The Secret Garden (1987) when the girl wakes up to find everyone in her house dead or actively dying. They made us watch it in third or fourth grade and I couldn't get this out of my head for a while, to the point where I still remember the scene in vivid detail 25 years later

Intense , get. But I don’t see it on the same level as Old Yeller or some others.

frick Steven Spielberg for running Santa for a whole generation of kids that went to see Gremlins too young.

And don't get me started on that episode of punky Brewster where everyone dies including the dog.

Never Ending Story

That entire movie fricked me up as a kid. The wolf Gmork scared me for years. Artax sinking in the mud was traumatic. The Nothing gave me my first ever existential crisis of "what does it all mean and what happens when the universe returns to nothingness?" It kept me awake for months.

Truly, a crazy movie for me. I need to get my son to watch it. He's a deep thinker.

Gmork scene:

All Dogs go to Heaven

The 10 year old little girl who voiced Anne Marie (and Duckie in Land before Time) was murdered by her father. Rumor is Burt Reynolds supposedly had to do over 60 takes of this scene to get through it
