Father Time is relentless and if we live long enough, he gets us all.
Didn't realize Winkler was so short.

Winkler went on to have a great career as a character actor, totally different from Fonzie. Apparently a great guy, everybody seems to love working with him.

Yeah, as kids, we watched Happy Days and all bought into the idea that The Fonz was some irresistible force that no bad arse could take down, and every woman wanted to be with.
Hollywood!

Definitely one of those weird 80s kids phenomena.

Happy Days first aired in 1974. I had no idea that it ran up into 1984! I think after 5 seasons, most of those who had started watching it grew out of it and moved on.
The original cast of characters had gone from HS to I guess graduating college? IDK, I dipped out well before the Fonz jumped the shark.
And I don't even recall seeing Joni loves Chachi. Did they get married and start a family or something? I've no idea.
*RIP Erin Moran.

For reference purposes...
ETA:
'Fonzie Moves In' (Episode aired Sep 9, 1975)
Do they not look really high in that current pic?

—Married yes, kids no. Canceled after a cup of water.

Season 3 was the best, then 4&5. After that, nope.

Potsie’s uncle invented the Heimlich Maneuver. Anson Williams’ real name is Anson William Heimlich.

Secondly, it shows the effect that actual "acting" can do. Winkler's Fonzie was pure brilliance; nobody ever questioned that a short, skinny Jewish guy was the coolest man on Earth (and Italian). It wasn't just the leather jacket, the slick DA hairdo, the thumb's up and the "Ayy's", it's how he blended it all together.
People need to understand- Happy Days was conceived to be mostly about Richie Cunningham (Ron Howard), the Fonz was supposed to be a small role for a generic greaser (cigarette pack rolled into his sleeve, constantly combing his hair, etc), and Winkler wasn't considered a frontrunner for the role. But then he came into the audition in character and blew them away... note that he NEVER combed his hair. He would always go to, and then look and it's perfect already
I can't think of another casting in any show, where an unknown guy comes in and takes the entire show over like that.

I wonder why? The Lord of Flatbush, filmed a year earlier with Sylvester Stallone and Perry King..

**Wiseguy was such a great show! I need to go find it streaming somewhere. That was truly ahead of it's time.

The Fonze had the upper hand on everything, except the word "love."

For real. It’s hard to think of another character in anything that everyone just completely bought into wholesale. One year on a family vacation to Florida, my mom made us all wear matching “The Fonz for President” t-shirts.
