I hate that there is another character, similar to Downton Abbey, that works downstairs that you despise. Or at least I already despise her. If ol girl wears Mr Russell down and he ends up being unfaithful it's going to make me mad. For once, don't go the predictable route and let the married couple end up being just a good marriage. There's nothing wrong with doing that, dont turn it into a soap opera.

Why did Marian just show up uninvited with a pair of old shoes at Peggy's parents house?
Did I miss something?
Such a dumbass move and out of left field from a scene standpoint.

She made the assumption that because they are Black and because Peggy hasn't wanted to go home that they must be poor (and need the shoes). I think it was a perfect example of Marian's naivete.

And this is why this show isn't as good as Downton Abbey. It's a little too on the nose. It rubs your nose in rudimentary wokeness like you're a 3rd grader.
Still going to watch. I like the railroad baron.

Just saw this has already been renewed for a 2nd season.

That was the best part. The contrived scenes with Peggy’s family were ridiculous. It was good to see that Mr. Russell does indeed love his wife. At first I was surprised he didn’t fire the maid on the spot, but I think he saw her ambition and think she will somehow be a useful tool against his and Mrs. Russell’s obstacles.
It's going to bite him on the arse.

Holy shite Nathan Lane.

He’s going to be great in that role IMO.
Anne Morris is going to get herself in some shite with her revenge against Mrs. Russell.
And I don’t buy Marian’s lawyer friend being as upstanding as he appears to be.

Really liking where this series is going.

Likewise, I find myself concerned as to the true nature of Mr. Raike’s intentions towards Miss Brooke.

Apparently he's based on Commodore Vanderbilt. Did some research, his fortune was 200 billion in today's dollars, and his heirssquandered it within 50 years.
Everything I've read from the creators and producers and cast said he is based on Jay Gould - a rival of Vanderbilt
Vanderbilt was dead in 1882 - Gould died in the 1890s but was 46 in 1882

Next week's previews show Agnes getting pissed about something and storming across the street to the Russell's house

Yea the one time Agnes said something about him she said he was "an adventurer" or something like that. I just took that as kind of a ladies man (I might be misinterpreting that). Pretty sure she's going to be spot on like she was with Ada's suitor.
Plus he was in the balcony with that other girl. And he's already trying to get some. He's a goober, I like the Roussel's son much more.
The preview looks like it's going to be a pretty good episode next week.

A) He was the family attorney where she grew up. He may know that Marian's father did NOT piss away the family fortune, but invested it and Marian unknowingly is the heir to actual wealth. Once they're married, he "finds" the inherited wealth.
B) Marian's father did something so despicable to the attorney's family that this is a revenge romance that ends up with Marian as an outcast from society.

I don't know if I can go through that again.
Too traumatic.
(Though that shot of the butler looking down at that empty leash made me laugh pretty loudly.)

True. It's the difference between making any show today compared to 2010-2015, when Downton Abbey was made.

True.
Genuinely curious what has been "woke" about the show so far? Maybe something with Peggy's storyline but couldn't imagine a black, female writer in 1882 had the easiest time being hired.
