Go to the second sandbar. And then swim just a little farther. You will hear the most amazing trumpets. If you don’t hear them, just keep swimming. You will hear them eventually.

Back in the 70s and 80s was a great place. In the 80s on a Sunday night sat at the bar and had a beer with Jimmy Buffett. Use to be a KFC across the street and before ONO River was just a wake zone use to go skiing there tie up being KFC get some chicken, cross the street and grab some beer. On Sundays head back to Mobile and stop at Judge Roy Beans

There is nothing wrong with the Flora-Bama, which is kind of the problem. Exactly. I met my wife at the Bama 26 years ago. She was on spring break from Troy. I was starting a new career after coaching. You could walk to the beach from the back deck. Everything was outside, the upstairs deck was outside, it was great in all its sweaty, sandy, rowdy glory.
Now it’s a typical club that you would find in Pensacola. Bland, fake beach vibe.
They even wand you for weapons at the entry now. Back then, everybody had a weapon.

i was stationed in Pensacola from early 2008-late 2009 and i lived right across the bridge from Perdido Key. lots of time spent at the Florabama (welcome member come on in!). but as fun as it was, i can remember feeling a bit too old for that crowd even then (mid-late 20s).

i went back one time with my wife a few years later to show her "my old stomping grounds". had one beer and i was like, nah let's get the frick out of here.

i suppose if the stars and moon aligned, right crowd, right friends, right night, it could be a fun place to be. but i honestly cant imagine hanging out at the Florabama anymore.

[Intro]
Sitting here at the Flora-Bama
Bout to open up a big old can of good times, unwind
Fall in and out of love in the same night
In the same night

[Verse 1]
There's ball caps, photographs, dollar bills and bras
License plates from every state nailed up to the wall
Spring breakers, heart breakers, already getting loud
Talladega's on the big screen, don't it make you proud?

[Chorus]
Sitting here at the Flora-Bama
Bout to open up a big old can of good times, unwind
Fall in and out of love in the same night
Can't say I got a whole lot of cares
I'm in the redneck riviera
It's getting crazy, getting hammered
Sitting right here at the Flora-Bama
At the Flora-Bama

[Verse 2]
There's hot time, low tide, years of history
Hurricanes with different names that almost took the beach
The sign that says "live your life" just for inspiration
Gonna raise a lot of hell tonight in the, in the no shoes nation

[Chorus]
Sitting here at the Flora-Bama
Bout to open up a big old can of good times, unwind
Fall in and out of love in the same night
Can't say I got a whole lot of cares
I'm in the redneck riviera
It's getting crazy, getting hammered
Sitting right here at the Flora-Bama
At the Flora-Bama

[Bridge]
Got your "who that?", go Vols, roll tide and the Seminoles
Old dogs, war eagle, green-eyed gator, that's barely legal

[Chorus]
Sitting here at the Flora-Bama
Bout to open up a big old can of good times, unwind
Fall in and out of love in the same night
Can't say I got a whole lot of cares
I'm in the redneck riviera
It's getting crazy, getting hammered
Sitting right here at the Flora-Bama
At the Flora-Bama

[Outro]
Don't it feel good?
Don't it feel good?
Yeah, don't it feel good?
At the Flora-Bama
Sitting here at the Flora-Bama
Sitting here at the Flora-Bama

i cant support a solo trip to the Florabama, but there aint a damn thing wrong with Gulf Shores / OB. half the price of what you'll spend at the trendy, way overcrowded Florida panhandle beaches and just as good.

Sounds like you might be local. If you know the context of "Nocoolers" then you for sure are a local.

I live at said panhandle beaches. The water and beaches aren’t as good. The fishing is on par. I also don’t consider a trip to the panhandle a vacation. It’s a fricking nightmare. Expand your horizons a little and travel, we live in a beautiful world and a beautiful country.

oh i agree fully with you on that point. i'm just saying if you're looking for a beach weekend an easy drive from Louisiana, Gulf Shores and OB is a solid option.

but yes, there are about fifty places i'd rather travel than to those or ANY beaches. but i am married to a woman who considers vacations to be beach trips and beach trips only.
