We were 12th in the league in assists per game and 11th in the league in assist/turnover ratio last season. The cry for a “PG” is overblown. Willie’s 0.5 system really emphasize passing the ball and creating assists. We just needed a lead guard and we have one.

we lack a true PG and 3 pt shooting

I mean yes, we do lack a true PG but the hope is that Zion will eventually work on his handles enough to eventually just split those duties evenly between him and BI. Even now, he will run some of the offense along with BI and CJ. And even then, I trust Alvarado. Hell, Daniels, if he develops his 3, might be closing games in a few years with Zion and BI, esp if Herb becomes above average or even just average from 3.

And overall, I think it’s a foregone conclusion our 3 point shooting will be better. Practically the whole team practiced it a ton in the off-season. Alvarado, Nance, Herb and even Trey have worked on their form and in addition to their form looking better, all them look more comfortable and more confident in letting it fly and have been hitting shots. If BI can shoot 38-39% then teams are in fricking TROUBLE

Every team in the league has a weakness.

GS has depth issues

Memphis lost depth and won't get crazy 3pt shooting like they did last year.

Dallas lacks defensive depth

Etc etc

The lack of a “true” PG criticism just bothers me. It’s just a buzz word that people like to throw out there. Hell the best “PG” in the league, Curry, is actually the SG running off screens for a large portion of his minutes.

We clearly have multiple guys that can run the offense. The idea that you need a CP3 or Stockton type to be successful in today’s NBA is just crazy.

The NBA has largely abandoned this type of point guard setup, too.

Just a silly criticism when you have 4 potential ball handlers in the starting 5

It's a really dumb criticism.

The lack of a rim protector is essentially the only major flaw in the roster.

Are any of those 4 guys good ball handlers? Not good passers. Dribblers and ball handlers. Who can break a press? Who is the primary to bring the ball up and set the offense?

It's all hypotheticals and we should be ok for the most part. Many teams have got by without. But that is true of any roster flaw. Teams can overcome them. Every great team has a flaw or multiples.

Agreed, we add a good rim protector and I think we can have a close to top 10 defense

Thankfully Jose is on our team so we don’t need to worry about the one guy in the league who presses
