I don't understand these people. This is just pure ineptitude. They have no idea what they are doing. Why would he be so heavy?

If he’s 281 now does that mean the spectrum of fit Zion starts at 295?

That's a slippery slope to try and figure that out, but what it does tell me that Zion has never been below 300 pounds as a Pelican if he's in the 280's now.

The fact that it took him five goddamn years to take this shite seriously is a problem.

Damn, dude, give it a rest. Z looks great there. If he starts the season 10 lbs lighter than he is this weekend, then that looks to be about perfect.

It’s too hot outside for Pels negativity.

Skinny Zion is leading us to 55+ wins.

I actually believe it this time (I kind of did the other times too), I mean I am 100% certain it’s true this time!

Looks like Duke Zion.

It's not 10lbs, it's 9lbs. Do you know why he picked that number? Cause it's 9 weeks to the start of the season. So they want him to lose a pound a week. They are intentionally keeping him heavy, at 270+.

Every expert has told him and his camp that is too heavy. Yet they want to fight all conventional wisdom. I understand his talent, but at some point it just doesn't pay to give in just to get something out of him. It's not going to end well..

Dude your takes here are bad. We saw him at this weight before at Duke and it works. This won’t be the waddling Zion from a few years back.

With all due respect, you have no idea what you are talking about. I have been watching former and current players, coaches, trainers, physical therapists, exercise scientists, and fitness experts discuss his training, physique and play style. It is a consensus that he is too heavy. I can't find one person that has stated, on the record, that he will succeed playing longterm at that size. There is no justification for him continuing to do this, other than the fact that he is scared to change and he does not have the support structure needed to help him do what is necessary. This is a failure by everyone surrounding him, including our team, management and staff. This is a straight up tragedy that someone with this much talent is being wasted and a fraction of what he could be. I'm angry to see this. It just doesn't make sense..

You would think him being like 250 lbs would be a much better weight. That is what Lebron is listed at and he is taller than Zion.

DK Metcalf is like 6’3 230 lbs. while in the NFL he is a giant fast WR.

I think that would be excessive, but sure, 250lbs would be great.

I will just never understand the delusion when it comes to Zion's size/weight. People on here say he is fine at 270-280lbs, which is crazy. I always point this out...

That is Danielle Hunter. 6'5 and weighs 262lbs. Why would Zion need to be bigger than Hunter to play in the NBA? If he doesn't need the weight, why would he carry any extra?

I mean you understand the difference between needs and options

There are DE bigger than Hunter in the NFL.

Size provides them an advantage.

Jj Watt didn’t need to be 290 but it helped him.

The only issue is long term health.

I don’t think whatever weight he was at was sustainable but he at least looks lighter than what he was.

hard to say what any of the numbers actually were.

My frustration comes from their intention that keeping him that heavy (270-280lbs) is his best path forward. That is the stated plan. I don't see how he improves like this. He is technically in violation of his contract right now, cause there is no way he is sub 10% body fat (that clause was always BS, since we'd never enforce it). So they want to get him right to that benchmark of 290 total. The bare minimum.

He last played a game on April 14th. The season officially starts on October 23rd. That's over 6 months he had to train and condition. He could have easily lost 30+lbs over this offseason. He wasn't over 300lbs at the end of last year. Hes at 281 now. So what did he do, lose 10-15lbs?

He's never tried to be smaller. You would think he'd have tried it once. But it's the same thing each offseason. I know many have given up or resigned themselves to this issue, but our future hinges on him and they have no idea what they are doing.

No doubt this is the primary issue. But how is improving as a player, if the physical part of his game doesn't improve? He has to keep developing athletically. He is not maxed out..

I feel like part of the issue is we have all just been guessing at his weight.

He looks considerably lighter than he did last season and compared to other seasons where he’s been really heavy it’s a drastic difference.

So i’d this is 270-280 then we’ve been seeing this guy at like 290-300+

so this is a weight loss.
I think we’ll see more bounce.

A big part of this game is being big and absorbing contact in the paint and being able to finish. So there is a threshold where that diminishes.

This was my biggest takeaway

Stepdad confirming that he's now 280ish and plans to play at 272, when he currently looks WAY skinnier than he did in the past 5 years...

That tells us he was playing at 300+ and the jokes were accurate

I read online that just losing 10lbs removes roughly 30-40lbs of pressure off your joints. So you are looking at a guy who probably will have 120lbs of joint pressure off his body which is absolutely fantastic for him long term.

Definitely 6'6 max, maybe 6'5 w/o shoes.

Back a few years ago when the NBA went in and got official heights for everyone without shoes he measured at 6'6, which for comparison's sake is a bit taller than what Draymond, PJ Tucker, and Grant Williams were measured at (I picked other guys with a similar build and position to him).
