Don’t feel any better but I wouldn’t feel good facing any team in the NFC Championship Game. Still, the Eagles perform really well on the road and the Rams do not.
I just want us to play great football the way we are capable for 60 minutes. If we do that I’ll be good. I want the offense to play well and the defense to play well. The rust is off. I want to see the offense play like they did against the Steelers if not a little better. I want the defense from the last three quarters for all four quarters of this game. We’re due a fast start and a good game from our team.

How has Talib played this season?
Honestly a lot of pundits are saying he looks like he’s playing hurt. Either that or he’s lost a step. He’s still good but he’s not elite like he used to be. MT13 has to win that matchup and Ginn has to torch Peters.
Just bottle up their run, make Goff beat you. This is his first road playoff game. Make him make the incredible throws to beat you. He hasn’t done it for the last two months

I'm worried without rankins how will this run defense be
We faced Cooper Kupp earlier this season... this time he's out
That's their biggest missing piece from game 1
Obviously them having Talib this time is a key addition... as well as the new RB (and former Panther) Anderson to fill in for Gurley on occasion

I was very nervous about the Eagles and I feel that my fear ended up being justified. Very close game. But I’m definitely less nervous about the Rams, if only slightly. I think they’re a more dangerous team but this time we are warmed up, not gonna be rusty, we have our OL (well... Peat idk), and honestly it wouldn’t be as bad to lose to the Rams. Don’t get me wrong, I would be tore up... I want to win bad. But getting 1 and done’d by a clearly inferior team would have been worse for sure.

Is Talib still a good CB? I don’t think he can match up with Thomas. And all Thomas has to do is get in a rhythm against Peters and that will get him out his element. He’s a hothead and you can see him getting frustrated on the field. We need our other WR’s to step up. I’m expecting Kamara and Ingram to have a big game.

Talib will cheap shot, hold, pass interfere, and helmet to helmet the Saints WR's.
If the refs allow it, the Saints need to have Taysom Hill run right at him.
Hill is big and strong enough to impact Talib's enforcer tactics.

It seems like everyone is assuming we stop Gurly since we stopped him the first go around when it was really Mcvay who stopped him after being forced to throw alot after being in such a big hole that early in the game.
I think its funny we assume this less than a week after not only gurly ran for 100 but cj anderson ran for 100 too against the cowboys d who isnt a slouch.
Gonna be a tough game.

Don't forget we also have Ginn back, which is huge and counters Talib being back, as one of them has to cover Thomas and the other Ginn.
If they try to go the route of shutting down Thomas with Talib, Ginn will go off for a 200 yard, 3 TD game with Peters on him.
If they try to shut down both Thomas and Ginn with double coverage Kamara will absolutely destroy them.
They do not have the defense that can contain what we have now that Ginn is back. They didn't contain us the first time without Ginn (granted Talib was out too).
The ONLY thing that impressed and surprised me from the playoff game was how they shut down Elliot. They held him to 2.3 ypc.
During the season they ranked 21st is rushing yards allowed (mostly because teams had to eventually abandon the run to play catch up or they'd be much worse) and 32nd in ypc allowed with 5.1.
So they fact that they did what they did to Elliot has me concerned about getting our run game going. That said, if we have to rely on the pass we have some great options against a pourus defense.

I need a little more context in that stat line. I believe that since he came back, his numbers include juggernaut QBs from the 49ers, Cards, and Bears

I don’t think anyone is assuming we stop them. I think people are assuming our D sells out to stop the run which we have been pretty damn good at doing this year.

CJ anderson was straight bowling dudes
Because they knew exactly what Dallas was doing based on Dallas' defensive front. They knew when Dallas was going to shift, and what the shift was going to be; therefore, they knew how to adjust the blocking scheme and where to run the ball. They will not have that advantage against the Saints.
Plus, McVay runs his offense the way Payton used to run ours. Whenever there is a marquee match-up against an elite QB, Brees, they have tailored their game plan to "beat" that QB. In every game that the Rams faced a top tiered QB, they got away from the run game early in the game regardless of what was going on. The only time they went back to feeding Gurley was if they had a lead or they were trying to milk the clock. But in every game McVay insisted on putting together a game plan to show that Goff should be in the same conversation.
If they do that again this week, the Rams will lose big. If they stick to their game plan it will be a close game throughout.

You need context to convince you Talib is an impact guy on their defense? You can cherry pick the teams baw but it doesnt work like that
quote:
Since the start of 2016, he is tied for the fourth-highest defensive grade among all cornerbacks with A.J. Bouye. Over that time, he has allowed a passer rating of just 67.2 on passes into his coverage, ranking third-best among the 111 cornerbacks who have seen at least 100 targets over that span, while his forced incompletion rate over the last three seasons of 19.6% ranks 11th among the same group
In the games in which Talib started in weeks 1-3 and 13-17, the Rams pass defense surrendered a passer rating of 74.5 (third-best in the NFL) and 10.4 yards per reception (seventh-best). In those games, they allowed eight touchdown passes while intercepting 12 passes which was the best ratio in the NFL over those eight weeks.
Contrasting those numbers with the eight games in which he was sidelined from weeks 4-12 shows just how vital he is to the secondary. Across those eight games, the Rams allowed a passer rating of 111.6 (third-worst in the league) while allowing fewer yards per completion than only the Oakland Raiders (13.2 yards per reception). In particular, they struggled with the big play. Over that span, no team gave up more completions 20 or more yards downfield (22) or passing yards on throws 20 or more yards downfield (819) than the Rams did. They were the only team to allow over 700 deep passing yards in those nine weeks.
Obviously, Talib himself has played a large role in that with his own play, ranking among the top 20 cornerbacks in the NFL in terms of overall grade this season. His effect goes beyond that, though. His presence on the field has resulted in improved play across the secondary. Perhaps the player happiest to have a healthy Talib back is his fellow outside cornerback, Marcus Peters.
With Talib in the lineup, some of the pressure has been taken off Peters to be the guy in the secondary, and it has shown in his overall grade. In games in which Talib has started this season, Peters has an overall grade of 78.5 which ranks 17th out of 118 qualifiers at the position across those weeks. In the games that Talib sat, his grade dropped all the way to 44.9 which was fifth-worst at the position.

Talib's games played: Oakland, Az, Chargers, Detroit, Chicago, Philly, Az, SF & Dal.
Rivers was the only top QB they faced
Games missed: Vikings, Sea, Broncos, SF, GB, NOLA, Sea & KC
Key QBs missed Rodgers, Brees & Mahomes

Bottom line is this. It's going to likely be a close game.
In a close game every little advantage matters. Home field is usually worth 3 points. I'd say our is worth slightly more.
If everything holds true and it's a close game, who do you have more faith in, Drew Brees and Payton or Goff and McVay...on the road?

My only concern is our interior line getting destroyed by Suh and Donald, thus affecting Drew and allowing guys like Talib and Peters to not have as much pressure
We will have to play much cleaner in the interior OL than we did against Philly bc their offense will put pressure on us. Cannot allow them a lead to establish the run

Sp basically a team with only two starting caliber corners plays better when both play. Shocking stuff.
The guys that were filling in for him are like our Crawley and Harris. Of course they sucked a lot more without him.
That still doesn't mean he's playing at a high level.
It's like the Apple effect with us. You have someone that is solid enough to not cause issues, versus someone who draws penalties on and gives up the deep ball.
But that doesn't mean Apple is a high level player. Just a very solid one who knows what to do.
We'll find out on the field Sunday.

I can see why you’re worried about this and it’s safe to assume Donald will get 1 sack but the Rams are 25th in sacks. They’re not exactly lighting the world on fire with pressure. Suh has really only played one good game, the playoff game. Fowler will be neturalized by Ram and Ebukam by Armstead. Wherever Donald is lined up he will he double teamed. If the rush five on five, which they have done before, then we will recognize that, keep a back or TE in to block.
There’s plenty to be worried about but I’m really not about the Rams front. They’re a bunch of big names but they’re not as productive as they should be. Again, they’re 25th in sacks and that’s with Donald having 19. The Cowboys OL is garbage and the Rams still only had 1 sack.
