fine jake, its a steep price but I'd rather pay it then just hoping someone like kikakaha can stay healthy and maybe provide us with some help rushing the passer

I have no real problem with the decision. The guys who have to live with it decided. It’s fine.

Second guessing comes with the territory.

I commented during the season, this was the first time in almost a decade, that when the defense was on the field, I didn't surf the web, or change the channel to Red Zone, or go take a shite.

The defense was fun to watch. It might've just gotten funner!

Next's years DE class is loaded. If the Saints are picking in the 20s next year, they could've snagged someone comparable to Davenport. The FO decided not to wait a year, mainly bc Brees has limited years left.

It's an aggressive move, and a move that most teams would not consider. It's fair to question it. There's no argument to be won whether or not it was the right decision as of now.

Seems like everyone is assuming the Saints will be picking in the late 20s in the 2019 draft as well. The division is pretty stacked and the Saints have a 1st place schedule to deal with. The Saints O/U win total is 9.5 games - that's not even a guarantee to make the playoffs.

And add a healthy Okafor to the rotation and we could be a very good defense.

That's what happens when you get a bunch of young, motivated guys and some veterans anxious to show that they are legit NFL starting caliber players. The defense played fast and with passion. It was legit fun to watch them get 6 or 7 guys to the ball and celebrate a big play.

If Davenport does even shows 3/4ths of what he is expected to do this season, this defense will be top 3 in the NFL.

Nice blurb ... I wish we could have waited till the 18th and only traded a 3rd and 5th but it is was it is. This was a critical position that we keep trying to fill and not get it right.

I will say though, we got it right last year without Davenport and ranked 7th in sacks.

I’m not comparing the players or saying it will happen the same way, but I’m sure people had a debate like this when we went up for Sullivan. The reality is we won’t know if it paid off or not until we see results.

Pass rusher was one of GB's highest needs and some mocks had the Packers taking Davenport.

We had to pay the move up price and compensate them for taking a player they could have been targeting themselves.

Come Super Bowl time, going into his 19th game, Davenport's sack/forced-fumble/TD-return on Bortles will cap off his rookie Pro Bowl year nicely!

I think it was a steep price but I also think that the Saints have been looking for another DE for awhile and they were not getting one picking #17 and higher.

They have needed one for the last three seasons. If they passed on Davenport then there would not have been one worth taking at #27. That alone means waiting until next year when again a late round pick is likely.

And the 32nd pick is practically the 2nd round. It's not really that high if you think about it

what you did there...I see

It is a little steep, but lets face it, its refreshing to not trade up for a frickin offensive player like we have so many times recently. LFG

I always find this to be a lazy argument. Our schedule is not that much different from the rest of our division. The only out of division differences are:

Saints: Rams & Vikings (Both should continue to be tough)
Falcons: Cards & GB (GB will bounce back w/ a healthy Rogers; I think Cards are on decline) +1 game for Atl
Carolina: Seahawks & Det (Det is always a tough game, Sea is falling apart) +1 for Car
TB: Bears & 49ers (49ers are expected to be a really good team, Bears are a .500 team) +1 for TB

We have no idea how the season will turn out, but based on how I view the opponents, there is really only a 1 game advantage bc o our "1st place schedule"

It's well known the 2019 draft class is DE stacked. Has nothing to do with crystal balls, it's just probability.

It's a 1st place schedule based on our "out of division" games.

Why does Vegas forecast us to win less than 10 games considering we have Brees and a stacked roster? It's not bc we have an "easy" schedule. It's bc we are in an already tough division and we play the Eagles, Steelers, Cowboys, Vikes, Ravens, and Rams outside of the division.
