Potentially he can show more if he stays healthy, but the fact is very few guys come back and play at their old level, much less better, after an Achilles injury.
I mean I hope he can come in and be like Robertson was for us last year, but I'm keeping my expectations low because of that Achilles.

Manti Te'o is smart to sign with Saints, Louisiana has great catfish.

Besides the IR history, is this guy any good?
From what I remember, he was starting to be regarded as a quality run-stuffing LB before the Achilles injury.

Some comments from pff on Manti
This is before he tore his Achilles. It's comical how bad this staff is at acquiring quality defensive players.

LB Manti Te’o remains a question mark after missing a team-high 16 tackles and finishing the 2015 season with one of the worst run-defense grades among off-ball linebackers

Manti Te’o, who’s coming off of the worst season of his career – only three of 94 qualifying linebackers graded worse overall in 2015.

I love this signing, honestly, unless it's just for stupid money.
We have sucked at LB for ages. Nolan is coming in and we've added some options for him here. I like the idea of just throwing as many darts as we can at the board and hoping for a bulls eye. This guy was a pretty highly rated prospect, he was decent in SD, even good at times, when not injured. He was having a rock solid first 4 games last year before tearing his Achilles. Could end up being a decent starter for us.
Between all these guys we have at LB and a new LB coach, we may actually get some real production out of that position this season.

Not a fan. But I guess you gotta have a serviceable backup.

also, assuming his "girlfriend" is coming with him?
That sure is a fresh joke.

I agree with all of this. I'm not saying he will be all pro; I'm saying that there's potential for him to be something special although it is fleeting opportunity. Again, low risk high reward.
The point is this is the kind of signing teams ought to be doing, because it does not hurt the team if it doesn't pan out.

I remember eddie lacy running him over with ease. Saints shooting for another 7-9 season.

Didn't realize he tore an Achilles. Dude wasn't that good before. This will end like Laurinatis did. Reuben foster still in play

He's the definition of LOW RISK HIGH REWARD. I agree this is what we are getting; however, he could very well be so much more. If he's not, then no big deal at all. He is a solid player that's been dealing with injuries.
Spot on.

This.

Can't Foster play WIll as well? Isn't he a pretty versatile LB. So regardless of MLB depth, if Foster can play Will, then we're thin longterm with Ellerbe on last year of deal and having his injury history and lack of dependence there.

Because of this?

At worst he's solid depth
At best, he could end up starting beside Klein and overtake Ellerbe. Teo hasn't been bad, he's just made of glass. Plus he's only 26.

And with that, the confirmation of a dream dies......

Can't wait to hear about his first catfished story experience from Louisiana.
