Well I will say we have been spoiled with the 7 weeks before this. We aren’t going to dominate every team. We will lose a game in the regular season and people will melt. The saints played from behind a lot yesterday. I think that got him away from the run first mindset.

We weren’t going to erase a double digit deficit running the ball. People act like it’s as easy to running the ball 10 times then you score, like it’s automatic. SP wouldve integrated run more with the closer we made the score, that’s always been his MO. It just so happens we didn’t allow ourselves to do that due to the late game heroics. He jumped right back to the run in OT when the game script allowed, just like he’s always done

I'm referring to the first half. Washington did nothing
in previous games or in the game that would make us not want to be a run first team. Brees wouldn't have taken so many hard hits and the defense wouldn't have been on the field as long as they were.

Does anyone remember a bonehead play being called in a game
in the Superdome on a Sunday during Super Bowl season. Like we needed a yard for a first down to ice the game, and Payton calls a double reverse that gets sniffed out and clobbered. I know there are multiple possibilities, but this was a huge deal at the time.

Well we actually were pretty balanced outside of the 2 minute drills. Did you see my previous post?
We got some penalties and negative plays that forced us to pass a bit more than we wanted. But still really balanced.

Not during the Superbowl Season but there was a reverse called to Reggie that we fumbled or something trying to kill the clock.

No, I missed it. I'm just a little puzzled and probably a slight overreaction. Just felt we would pound it on the ground all day because we have that capability.

I had some frustrations with the play calls too.
Mainly how we kept trying to pass it short. But that had more to do with Redskins having a good plan defensively and sitting on those routes. It is why Kamara took so many shots.

The Saints were down just 4 at half, what killed us to start the 2nd half were silly mistakes. Brees had a delay of game which made us punt our 1st drive, next drive he threw the ball backwards to Hill which killed that drive. The next drive Kamara opened with a long run that got us near the redzone, but then the run bogged down the next 2 plays, and then Brees threw it deep to Thomas on 3rd and short which forced us to settle for a field goal. Granted we all called for pass interference on that one.

The Offense was right in the game, had some momentum building but just had a mistake end the drives.

Redskins had a really good game plan. We just weren't playing well early on. It happens.

It was a collective team effort in that regard. Payton had that silly reverse call, Offensive Line was letting Brees get lit up on Pass plays, Defense could never get to Cousins, and our return game could never even make it back to the 20 yard line. That 1st half was a rough one.

Plays like the double reverse
40 yard bombs into double coverage on 3rd and 4
Empty set shotgun on the goaline
Back to back passing plays to start a drive early in the game
Unnecessary play actions before the run is established

People only notice this when it doesn't work.

Do you know how many times we've had success going empty at the goaline, or starting drives with passing plays, or surprising a team with a deep throw on 3 & 4?

Do you know what happens even on a the failed Ginn reverse? Which, by the way, was a likely TD if it is a yard or 2 deeper and Ginn can get the corner on those defenders.

it opens up that 2 point play to Kamara. Did you see how many Wash defenders bit on the end around action?

Aikman is right and he has the street cred to get away with calling it out.

We had a lot of negative plays and penalties that put us in long yardage situations unfortunately. Also had too many negative or low yardage run plays in the 3rd quarter that put us behind the sticks.
