Southpaw…..

I was at the varsity one night when they were giving out Southpaw for free. The regular and the light version….one had a goose, and one a bass on the labels. Simply the worst beer i ever drank. Actually paid for beer that night.

PBR in a keg was solid and cheap.

My beer of choice was Keystone so I could spot anyone that stole one of my beers from the fridge or cooler.

I think Killian's had a party ball, too. We would get that as a splurge.

When I was in college I had no money and drank a lot of shitty beer. But, Blatz was undrinkable. That shite made Carling Black Label taste like Dom Perignon.

Falstaff was ahead of its time. The made what they called a "Tapper". It was just under two gallons of beer that fit on a fridge shelf. They also made a styrofoam cooler that it fit into.

This was our “go to” beer in college.

99 cents a six pack in the mid 90s was a really good deal. And not horrible beer.

Ahh the glory days of keggers and doing keg stands. It was always tragic when the last keg was floated.

Good times. Good times

This feels like a romanticized recount of keg parties you saw on a movie by someone who wasn't invited to many

Some rust belt classics there. It's been a minute since I've had a Blatz or Hamm's. Naturally, growing up where I did, large amounts of Iron City were consumed over the years. Genesee Cream Ale was another popular one back in the day.

Were they the ones that also used the backpack beer dispensers in Tulane stadium or was that Dixie? When we got older my friend bought a refurbished one so we finally got to have a beer we saw so many enjoying growing up.

Actually both...

Falstaff was on the East side the stadium, and Dixie was on the West side.

That's awesome, where did he find it?

Not sure but it was well before internet shopping. He worked on campus at one point so I’m guessing he found it that through his connections.

now replaced by the corny keg. We did not improve on 1980s technology
I would not say that at all .... The corny keg or Cornelius keg comes from Coke and Pepsi. They manufactured millions of them to distribute their product. Once they updated their technology to syrup bags and carbonation machines these were obsolete. So homebrewers and other had a massive supply of unused vessel ready to use. Some I have bought still had sprite or coke in them probably from the 90s.

This is all I drank from about 1990 to 1992.

I remember as a kid in late 70’s and 80’s all the neighborhood dads would get this one ( unless it was a big party and then they’d spring for Bud )

I’ve gone back to drinking cheap beer. I’ll have me a Frio 6.0 or two and relax a bit on the weekend. Times are tough, and splurging for some 6-pack of craft beer for $12 makes no sense to me at this point.
