Did she pay $11.69 for all of that? That is easily over $100 now.

Man, that was a blast from the past! Hard to believe that video was filmed 50 years ago….seems like just a couple of years ago to me!

You’re right, Sears had a very distinctive smell…and it was the same smell in every one of them! If you think about it, they had a very diverse product line, and every bit of it was right there in the store. Everything from clothes, and shoes, to appliances to batteries and tires were all right in the store. I used to love their tool department!

A more civilized era.

Kept waiting for them to visit the candy section.

I was 8 y/o in '77. I think I even had a similar striped-shoulder shirt the boy was wearing. I have fonder memories of the Sears catalogue more than captive/forced trips to Sears to watch my parents/grand-parents' boring appliance/clothing shopping. It didn't have as extensive a toy aisle like K-mart did.

Star Wars made '77 a memorable year for me, but I remember I also got sucker punched in the back of the head at school by a black kid, who had watched an episode of Roots the night before, apparently for what 8 y/o me had done "to his ancestors". So, frick Alex Haley & Tyrone.

There was a Sears catalog store in our small town (we had to travel an hour to get to the big store). I remember going there with mom to place an order or pick up packages during the 1970s. My childhood bedroom was outfitted with curtains and a bedspread from Sears. The Christmas toy catalog was required reading. Just this week, I saw that the lady who worked behind the counter at the catalog store had passed away.

Simpler times.

The scene with the car was worth it alone. The sound of the doors and windows, you can almost remember how cars like that were back then. It also didn’t start immediately. After a few years, you had to fidget with the carburetor so the car would start right.

That store reminded me of the one here in BR that is now the BREC facility, before it moved to Cortana.

When I started junior high basketball, I needed some basketball shoes. So, we head to Sears in Ellick and my mom bought me some Ted Williams high top converse knock offs. Never forgave her for that.

Really good video for 1977 considering camcorders didn't come out until the early 1980s. Was that 16mm film?

From the 70's Sears catalog the man on page 602 might have been letting it all hang out

You're right. I've always lived in Lexington, so our Sears was the most frequent I visited, but I can recall the ones in Louisville, Cincinnati, and Knoxville all having that smell. Whatever the hell it was...it was Sears!

My family would go out to eat on Friday evenings and then go to the mall, where our Sears was. While mom and my sister went to look at clothes and shoes, me and Dad would go check out the Craftsman tools and the new TVs and appliances. This would've been late 80s-90s.

Good memories.

I have a Kenmore washer and dryer and a refrigerator/freezer I bought in '96 from Sears. I was told by my parents to never get rid of them because they'll typically never break. None of them ever have and I won't get rid of them. I don't care how old they look and all the new fancy gadgets. Function matters more than style.

I'll always remember Sears for the Adam Walsh kidnapping and those stupid arse front projection TVs. And Craftsman, of course.

When that kid was trying those shoes on I was transformed back into another time. Remember those metal devices they used to use to measure your feet? I feel like I haven’t seen one of those since 1999
