Wonder how Gene and Paul will react.
Probably with a $99 collector's edition eulogy. Available in installments.

This couldn't be any tackier (and by that, I mean, greater, for 12 yr old me)

When they reunited the original lineup with full makeup and everything I was determined to see them live in concert. I had the privilege of finally getting see them for the first time on that tour when they came to Birmingham. As someone who’d been a huge KISS fan from the time I was 6 years old on the mid-70s I freaking loved it!
Similar.
Loved KISS in middle/jr. high. Had the albums, posters, t- shirts, etc. My friends and I used to lip-sync/air guitar to their songs on my stereo. We, of course, planned to have our own KISS-type band when we were older-- designed our face makeup and costumes, wrote song lyrics and stuff... was looking forward to seeing them in Endymion in 1979 but of course there was the police strike so that didn't happen. Was too young to ever see them live.
Early 80s I moved on to punk rock and new wave, grew out of the KISS fandom. But for old times sake I dressed up as Gene for Halloween 1994...
When that 1996 tour date schedule was released, I knew I had to go. They were playing the Superdome. My sister had a friend that worked for Ticketmaster; told him I wanted great seats. He took my VISA number and a week later, I got the tickets in the mail. 7th row on the floor! It was great-- they were RIGHT THERE!! I could feel the heat from Gene when he did the fire-breathing thing. When they went on extendable risers out over the audience, Ace was directly above my buddy and I... it was like being 13 again.
Got to see them again several years later when they played Woldenberg Park FOR FREE as part of the Final Four festivities.
But nothing can top or take away that grand night in the Dome in 1996...

I’m not up on KISS or Gene Simmons. What’s the story about his probably charging?
Posted on 10/16/25 at 10:16 pm to Martini
if he could charge people for the air that they breathe in the venues where they play, he would...

Was talking to the wife about this tonight. Ace Freely years are like dog years. He lived 5 years to our one.

Gene Simmons hasn't been in touch with Ace in years, but he absolutely will find a way to make money off of this.

I was 14-15 when Kiss became really popular in '74 & '75, and they were my favorite band for several years. Over time my musical tastes somewhat changed, so while I didn't dislike Kiss, neither did I go out of my way to listen to them.
Regardless of my changing taste, though, this sucks. They gave me a lot of enjoyment listening to them for hours at a time as a teen, and it makes me realize my own mortality when someone I admired passes away.
RIP, Mr Frehley.

Ace and Peter were the fun ones of the group, Simmons was a stick in the mud.
Gene liked to show off his education. I recall an interview with the band during their 90's reunion shows where Ace turns to him and says "Why you always using three dollar words?"

Gene has admitted that he treats KISS as a money making business. And he looks to maximize profits.
He'd be a heck of a private equity firm CEO.

Man, this really makes me melancholic and nostalgic. These bands and icons of the late 70’s and 80’s were truly unique. With every one that passes, we are losing something we will never see again. Ever. You’ll never see another Kiss, ZZ Top, Hulkamania, Poison, Morley Crue, etc… even bands like Depeche Mode, who were the first of their kind will never come around again.
I can’t name one unique musical group that is even remotely unique or interesting today. Everything is cookie cutter. Pre-packaged and produced to tell us what to like today. I.E. Nobody really likes Taylor Swift. The bitch sucks! Hell, they’re even doing a re-make of Running Man. Nothing original.
The 80’s was the greatest time to be alive!
Like Andy said “I wish there was a way to know you’re in the good ol’ days before you’ve actually left them.”
