That looks like a diamondback watersnake. Copperheads have an hourglass pattern.

At first I thought it was a copperhead too but then I noticed the tell-tale “Hershey Kiss” marks on it were upside down.

Mark me down for the water snake. Congrats on the rat infestation.

I know we’re right.
Knew what it was instantly, scrolled through thread to see if anyone got it. LSU Tigershark nailed it. Wondering where this was at because I’ve never seen one in my area.

It’s not a copperhead. I’s non-venomous.

Yeah, I know you are
I wasn’t sure at first though. The pattern was throwing me off, plus I couldn’t make out any bands on the lower jaw.

Just a regular earth snake. Real good with kids and pets too.

OPs snake isn't a Copperhead baw.

In my garage, he would die for impersonating a copperhead.

Copperhead.
Relatively harmless and make great pets. Keep it for your kids.

It's not a copperhead.
It looks like a Midland Water snake, but if you're in NOLA (as your location suggests), it's probably a Plain Bellied water snake. Midland would be more likely in the Northshore area.
