Shiiiiit. I wish my Gen Z kid was like that. It'd be nice to save on insurance as long as possible. Mine is ready to roll when she hits 16 this weekend.

Delayed Driving goes hand in hand with a broader trend: Gen Z is falling behind older generations across a range of social markers. They're having less sex and waiting longer to couple off and start families. They don't go out as much and drink less alcohol, in part because it's so easy to socialize, shop, and order meals online.
That is...ummm, kinda good in my opinion?

it was so much cheaper to get in a car when I was 16 than now
Everything was cheaper 30 years ago, get a helmet.

Are you really that naive to think that 16 year olds are not getting their drivers licenses
Do you not know what statistics are?
The numbers are from the DMV.

The additional job opportunities a car would open up for them do not pay enough money to afford the vehicle, gas, and insurance required to get there.
Granted this is a small sample, but the few teens I know who refuse to drive have parents more than willing to help shoulder the cost if not cover all of it.
Maybe a part time job required for gas and spending money.

Today’s parents are just as soft

I feel like this is good news

My nephew is 23 and has never stepped behind the wheel of a vehicle and claims he never will. He takes the greyhound to visit his dad in Texas and Ubers in town and he typically walks to work.
My son is a teen and a couple years from driving age but he’s eager and excited to drive and not having to rely on me or his mom to get him places.

Do you really need to drive anymore? This seems like an old person rant because they can't keep up with modern times as they change.
As others have said, too expensive and also in most cities you just don't need to drive. Tons walk/bike to work, carpool, uber etc. and that's if they don't just work from home. Hell, 80% of young women in cities like LA order uber eats every single night for dinner, if not for breakfast and lunch too. If they go out it's uber again to get there and back or friend/SO picks them up.
If you are just scared to drive and need to then buy a damn Tesla and FSD and call it a day you have your own taxi. No one wants someone driving on the roads with severe anxiety about it anyways.

Our dorky Eagle Scouts are gear heads who love car shows, guns, classic rock and are graduating college early to head for law school.
One thing we did as parents was keep them from social media. Glad we did.

Do you have teenagers in this generation? Out of 5 of my kids, two of them had to be coerced into getting a license. I also hear the same anecdotal evidence from colleagues and friends that their kids have low , or no, interest in driving

Ditto. My son would drive the wheels off his truck if I let him.
Daughter will be driving within the year. She's nervous but excited. I don't see her driving as much as her brother.

On top of apparently being dumber than past generations
If you remove the millions of third world low IQ retards and their chirrens we’ve imported over the past decades the scores are on par with other generations.
People need to understand this as they’re gaslighting us about everything else as the reason for this.

Getting a car as a teenager was pure freedom.
These kids will be putting people in camps when they are older.

They're all content with connecting with people on the internet.... no need to drive

My 15 year old grandson can't wait to get out there and burn rubber off his dad's truck.

We had to valet park at a restaurant out of town the other night all the attendants were college students…there was a ten minute huddle while they tried to find someone who knew how to drive a stick shift LOL. I wound up parking it myself

That's quite a take.
Driving is an old person thing and if you think people should drive, you can't keep up with modern times?
LOL

My daughter is 14 and always bugs me to let her drive around the empty parking lots. Shes already talking about what kind of car she wants when she turns 16.
