I remember there were very good wing places to eat and drink cold beer. Looked it up...Roosters and Frickers.

ok this is kinda hilarious. roosters and frickers are generic arse chain bars that kinda suck. not hating on you as they definitely have the cold beer part down and ive been to both a few times, but still funny that these are recommended.

i live kinda close to dayton but closer to cincinnati. dayton is not great IMO. but it's a big enough city that there are pockets that are perfectly fine. kettering and centerville, as the poster im replying to mentioned are both solid.

I’m from Dayton. Ask me all the questions.

It tilts towards shithole, but has a few redeeming qualities.

You can sorta do your own thing, lots of space and abandoned housing haha.

Cost of living is dirt cheap.

Crime is kinda bad. Fentanyl is very, very primary.

If you’re not into Ohio State, you’ll learn to despise them even more since they are front and center and Dayton is all in on Ohio State. Whereas school allegiance in, say, Cincinnati, gets chopped up amongst OSU, Cincy, UK, Indiana, and ND.

Oregon District is kinda fun for partying. But Dayton takes a backseat big time to Columbus when it comes to going out.

People there are pretty committed drinkers. Pine Club is legit. So is Marion’s Pizza.

All the affluence is in south-side suburbs like Centerville and Kettering.

North Dayton is pretty bleak and working class. I’m from there. I moved out of state in my early 20s.

Columbus and Cincinnati are objectively truly nice cities. I’d think about those places. But if your family is in Dayton, I get that too.

Those places are pretty cookie cutter.

Hidden gem for wings is 15 miles north in Tipp City. Place called Hinder’s. Elite wings. Still a smoking bar haha.

Low crime and a lot of house for the money, it would appear.

I wouldn’t be so sure about that. I haven’t lived there but am affiliated with the Air Force museum and have been there a bit.

The locals I know wouldn’t call Dayton low crime. Hell, a little over a year ago they almost shut down all city services including police and fire over budget issues.

Our corporate location is in Dayton, as is my “office”. I’ve been many, many times. The university is cool. They have two excellent steak houses(the pine club and oak wood club) and a few home style places that are good too. There are some blighted areas, but it’s not hard to never see them. The airport is small but super convenient, think a bigger BTR.

Aside from the 0 degree winters, I enjoy it.

This fight on the north-side captures some of Dayton’s essence.

Always find myself rooting for “Peewee”, who is one of two shirtless men but in the darker jeans.

I like to think it’s filmed sideways to accentuate the broken lives of the people involved.

Arguably one of the worst fights ever recorded. Yet I enjoy it.

I also grew up in Dayton (Englewood).

Raoul is spot on.

I'll add that Dayton Dragon games are well done and a cool experience.

Id live in Oakwood if I had to move back (which would never happen).

What’s funny is that I spent years in Dayton Kentucky , across from Cincy, and both places look exactly the same: houses, people and all. That same fight with the same kind of people plays out in northern Kentucky all the time. The Daytons are interchangeable :-/
