There is a goodwill boutique in old Metairie
That’s been closed for well over a year now. Maybe even two.
CSB, after the Anthony Davis trade with the Lakers, some Redditor ended up finding and buying Josh Hart’s old authentic Los Angeles Lakers gear with sharpie written name on it from that location.
Like someone else said, goodwill got wise to people‘s games and started taking all their good crap and shipping it off to be put on their website. The local stores is almost scraps now.

I’m pretty cheap and will save a buck where I can, but I’m not wearing clothes that someone I don’t know has worn.

I've heard of people bidding on their auctions online, on vintage guitars and getting them for next to nothing!!

They have an invention called a washing machine.
Also, a lot of stuff is new with tags which you can still wash.

they are in the profit game
—Well yeah. They need to make money to cover operating expenses and then give to charity. They’re not secretive about it. No problem here.

I take stuff to them and then look through the housewares. I've gotten two nice coolers, several pieces of cast iron, and a few other items. It can be hit or miss, but you can find some good items.

If you actually want to thrift shop and find gems, you have to go to less corporate thrift stores
I found a book about Billy Cannon at the Jacob's Well thrift store.

My daughter likes to thrift. I’d take her to goodwill then browse a little myself. Everything I saw had a stain on it, a small hole in it, or looked like someone homeless slept in it before putting it on the rack. I like a good bargain but nope.

I have several times for a piece of temporary furniture that I need in a pinch. It’s great for that stuff.

I brought my mother to her dermatology appointment in the building next to Goodwill in Metairie. While she waited in the doctors office I went to look around at Goodwill, first time I ever went there. I found two Brooks Brothers shirts with tags still on them. $5 each. They retail at Brooks Brothers for about $75.

All the time and other thrift stores.
Stocked a couple college apts for furniture back in the day. Used to buy paperbacks there a lot.
I had a BIL that was dirt poor when he died and bought him clothes to be buried in. Was actually some decent stuff.

Found two pair of used 1990's Orange tab Levis and a new pair of vintage Wranglers with the leather patch at Good will couple weeks ago. Paid $6.00 a a pair and will sell on Posh mark for anywhere from $45.00-$60.00 a pair.

Closed in 2021. It’s now an Orleans Shoe Co. store.

It’s like 80% women’s clothes at the Goodwill in my town. But if you need a golf shirt and don’t wanna spend $45 you can usually find some for $5

Never had before. Usually just took stuff to donate. GW or St. Vincent’s.
Went in one day to local GW and found a flawless Ralph Lauren tan fine wale corduroy sport coat that fit perfectly. About $12 if I remember correctly. Same with some pricy brand shirts. Those were about $5 or $6. I check them out now when I donate stuff maybe once a month.
St. Vincent’s had a flawless high end couch we got for about $100 and from GW a 10’ x 14’ rug that complimented it and the paint scheme we went with when renovating our condo. The rug was $65. They’re both in our living room now. Saved us a bundle and are way nicer than anything we’d seen new. What can I say? Mrs M is Scottish and her frugality is catching.
GW has changed and they screen intake pretty carefully for valuable items and sell or auction them online. Gone are the days of finding Newcomb pottery or a Frederick Remington.
Now that I think about it, I did get a nicely framed Audubon Raven print from GW years back before they started screening intake.
