One of my classmates at VPI was from Huntsville AL and he mentioned that his Dad worked for Werner von Braun and thought he was an excellent manager.
(We had lots of contacts because of our Aerospace Engineering program and Cris Kraft.)

I knew his longtime secretary before she passed away. Her son worked with my Pops. She always said he was good to work for and that he took care of the office workers.

I don't know how to post the link, but to me, this was one of the highlights of the entire space program. Still gives me chills.
“On Christmas Eve, December 24, 1968, the crew of Apollo 8, the first humans to orbit the Moon, read from the Book of Genesis during a television broadcast. During their ninth orbit of the Moon astronauts Bill Anders, Jim Lovell, and Frank Borman recited verses 1 through 10 of the Genesis creation narrative from the King James Bible.[1] Anders read verses 1–4, Lovell verses 5–8, and Borman read verses 9 and 10.”

When my wife was in 7th or 8th grade she read his book, which had his contact information in it, and she called him and used him as a source for her book report.

I heard him speak a while back and he described his Apollo experience like I would talk about having a flat tire. He really came across as a calm, cool as a cucumber individual. May he rest in peace.

Jim Lovell was also one of the first men to orbit the Moon, doing so on Apollo 8 alongside Frank Borman and William Anders.
