I've seen kites overhead the past couple of months here in Pensacola. Saw some around Jean Lafitte earlier this month as well.

Development could definitely play a part in y'all not seeing them though.

Also got these from my backyard feeders (Louisville as well)

Downy Woodpecker

Tufted Titmouse

White-Breasted Nuthatch

And I'm fully convinced the male Cardinal hanging around all spring/summer is now posing for me:

I love Tits! They are so fun. Some are bigger than others, but they are always great to see.

I went to Colorado solo hiking in May. Drove down to Sand Dunes NP and then came back up through the San Luis Valley to Buena Vista and thru Fairplay on my way back to Denver. Anyone here who has been to Colorado knows a lot of the land is privately owned so there is usually a 2 lane dirt road with barbed wire fence on both side providing Right of Way to get in and out of the State and National Parks. Man oh man did I get into bird watching. I drove into Brown's Canyon National Monument on a day where it was snowing in BV but very sunny in the canyon. I did not pass a single car on the 4 mile road in (this was second week of May) to the Canyon and saw House Finches, Black-billed Magpies, Mourning Doves, Hummingbirds, Flickers, Woodpeckers, Red-Tailed Hawks, Lark Buntings, Goldfinches, Grackles , Robins, Cardinals ,Wrens, what I think was a Kestrel because it looked like a smaller, brown Peregrine Falcon , and so many others I couldn't get the binocs on fast enough. The highlight of the trip was watching a Golden Eagle swooping down to snatch up a prairie dog. After it happened, multiple prairie dogs let out a predator warning call from their hole and I swear no wildlife moved within ear shot for the next hour.
