How early did you apply, etc.? We literally just had our son, but were thinking of doing tours already just to be prepared early.
It’s pretty wild, but both are online admissions and you basically need to apply the moment that applications open. For instance, hypothetically if Cathedral registration opens at 9am on October 9th, you should be online and refreshing the website at 8:45 to see when it officially opens. Same thing for Pius, but Pius also does an in person “evaluation” of your child before sending acceptance letters, at Cathedral the screening process occurs after acceptance. Pius’ application process is also much longer than Cathedral’s, it took me over 30 minutes to fill out the Pius application, versus roughly 10 minutes for Cathedral.
Oh, and another note to help, you can be a parishioner for multiple churches at the same time, we’re parishioners at both Cathedral and Pius.

I probably spent 400k putting my kids through Catholic school.
Put 3 kids through Fatima and STM. K-12, so 13 yrs each.
I tabulated a little over 250k spent. Well worth it, in my opinion.
My dad wanted to know why my house wasn't paid off yet. He understood when I showed him those numbers

that almost makes you a "floaton", with the -on being expressed the French way.
Per Fr. Gary Schexnayder, that means you float around to different churches
We do this too

Definitely good to know, that was something we were deciding on.

We’ve been Pius parishioners since we moved to Lafayette 8 years ago, due to proximity. Became parishioners at Cathedral not too long ago because we were interested in the school for our daughter. We try to split time 50/50 between the two.

Some Catholic schools will offer discounts when you have four kids. Does not hurt to ask.

John Paul the Great Academy,
Isn't that the one where the real fanatical Catholics send their kids?

I think he meant behind their peers that attended other Catholic elementary schools, definitely not behind the public schools.

2 years ago, I figured it would cost us approximately $430k in our lifetime to send our 4 kids to private school K-12. That was based on tuition costs 2 years ago.
I think that figure is now $500K and only going to grow.

I put 2 through school here in Lafayette. I told them they'd have to support me when I'm old because I spent all my money that could have been invested for retirement on letting them go to private school.

Is he still alive? He was our priest at St Michael’s in Crowley when I was younger. He was awesome. Always had smiley faces on everything

About a decade ago JPG was a solid academic school. They also had a strong religious education program. Students learned Latin and other classic subjects. They had good math, science and art teachers. Graduates were moving on to good colleges. One of my sons went there and I was a donor because I supported the mission of an independent Catholic school.
About 8 or 9 years ago they got a new head of school from Texas who refocused the school away from academics toward the production of culture warriors. The best faculty resigned. My son transferred out and I stopped donating to the school.
From what I see through friends whose kids still go there, although the Texas guy moved on, they haven’t recovered academically.
It can be a good fit for someone who doesn’t any need for advanced academics. However, I can’t recommend it anymore.

Yes he is, but lives in a nursing home. Had some serious health setbacks, but he is stable, last I heard.
Before St Michael’s, he was here at St Edmund’s. He married us and baptized our children. I miss that man.

Yes and no. Yes a little behind or on par with peers in the Lafayette area feeder schools for the most part. When we moved to the DFW area years behind public schools in Texas. Spent a ton on tutoring to catch up my oldest who was a straight A student at St Cecilia.
