I check my phone whenever something comes in unless I'm sleeping or doing something that doesn't lend itself to paying attention to it. I very rarely respond or react unless it's something I am waiting on or just a really big deal.

I've finally started getting good about marking the ones I need to follow up on the next day back to unread. I'll occasionally read something in the evening while watching TV or something and then forget it the next day.

I have little ambition for advancement so no, I do not.

I have told people at work many times that if they need me after hours send me a text or give me a call. I silence Teams on my phone too from 4:30pm-7am. Screw working 24/7

Yeah. Otherwise I'd have a notification and I'm OCD about stuff like that.

Unless it's an emergency I'm not doing anything with it.

I'm not going to lie, me either

I'd be fine making what I do now the last 20 years of my career with a COL raise every year. I'm not enough of a politician for upper management.

It’s on my phone so yes. Maybe I should turn it off at night or something

I work from home so...

But, I don't typically check my work email outside of work hours. I also don't really receive emails on my corporate work email outside of working hours, I will on my client email addresses, but I definitely don't check those outside of normal working hours.

This.

Maybe there are successful folks in business that can avoid this scenario but I don’t run with any of them.

Exception: The few true dinosaurs who still have a secretary who types & prints out everything for them.

Mostly doctoring & lawyering-type folks.

Me either. There is no where else for me to go unless I murder my superior or he quits. Highly unlikely.

For two reasons, yes

1. So I’m not caught off guard in the morning
2. I hate any notifications on my phone. Drives me crazy when I see a number that is unread emails/texts, etc

I apparently need to do a better job of getting away from work during evening hours. I typically respond to all work emails I receive before 10:00PM. I do this for two reasons. It keeps me from having to respond to a bunch of emails the following morning and for whatever reason our customers seem to expect this. I have never understood this mentality but I’m also part of the problem. We aren't performing brain surgery or saving lives.

Yeah I work for a 24/7/365 business. If I wanted to reply to emails and messages all evening I could. I'd rather spend time with my family though. Having a decent work/life balance is important to me these days. If it's an emergency, by all means, give me a call and I'll help out if I can.

I didn’t check work email much before Covid and working from home. Now, emails and work bleed seriously into the evening and weekends.

I miss walking out of the office at 6 and being done until the next morning. Especially back before smartphones.

This. Keep your work email strictly for work-related stuff, no personal stuff. Don't even use it to sign up for amazon or any other subscriptions that need an email. Just make a gmail account.

Now on topic, yes I do get emails on my phone but I never really deal with anything until the next time I'm in the office. Clients know my business hours so no I'm not helping you out at 9 pm even if I am able to do so from my own computer. There are a few exceptions like if I have a big contract on the line that I stand to make a good bit of money from or sometimes if you catch me in a really good mood I'll address it, but for the most part I just look at it and go "I'll deal with this tomorrow"
