Welcome to the working club brah - 1/2 don’t work and do as they please. Get nails and hair done, go to department store, go to McDonald’s, go to grocery, get home before kids get off bus, then head to the club.

This is called "networking."

Technically my "shift" ends at 5:00 but I normally log-out no later than 4:45. Usually before that even.

Or they work nights, or on PTO, don't work a regular M-F schedule. Not everyone works 8-5 or whatever and thankfully they don't. Your normal commute would be that much worse.

Possible - but 1/2 don’t work

Depends on where you are. As an example, in Baton Rouge, government employee work hours are, generally, 8:30 to 4:30. So you have carpool moms lining up early that then flows through the government employee quitting time which then flows into the private employee quitting time.

Yup. I’m a slave to the corporate world. Many days I could leave by 4, but, you know, 8:30-5:00. 3 more years and I’m out, retiring early.

Seems like traffic is worst around 4 and not as bad a bit after 5
Between school getting out (the local district has multiple start/end times) and regular rush hour traffic, traffic here is pretty busy from 3:00-6:00 pm.

I’ve never worked until 5 in my life. I’ve also never began work later than 7.

People who work 4 10s do. Some it might be later.. Depending on what time they start working. Unless you work in a school system or something 4:30-5:00 seems to be the standard time a lot of people get off. And I can assure you traffic starts getting bad around 3:30, but about 4:40-4:45.. when the state workers who work downtown get off..
They get of at 4:30, those who need to get on the interstate are on about 15 mins after they get off. Then on a good day the traffic starts to get BETTER. Not good, just better.. around 5:30s.. It all depends how much traffic the 4:30 traffic have to deal with because that will then impact the 5:00 people... If it runs relatively smooth then by 5:30 it gets better.
If you are talking about interstate traffic in Baton Rouge, there is a science to it, but I feel for those going to Baton Rouge and getting on at Port Allen. Sometimes traffic will be at a standstill past Walmart.

What are your hours? You obviously aren't at work if you can observe the traffic patterns at 4pm. Or are you going to work the night shift?

I know part of that is school traffic but just seems worse lately.
Where I am, 5pm is horrible...some large employers are running 4-10s and that clogs things up quite a bit around 5:00.
