Low income people will play as long as it’s legal. The government will have to outlaw it before low income People will stop playing. And the majority of the NFL probably comes from low income. So you’re gonna need like literal government intervention. I’m not saying it won’t happen but that’s what it’s gonna take.

In rural areas they do.

In urban areas they play basketball.

Poor people will take up whichever sport gives them a chance to make money and get out of the situation they grew up in.

If football starts to decline, something will replace it - probably soccer.

Soccer offers just as much wealth as football does, a longer career, less health issues after retirement, and is extremely less expensive to participate and play. All you need is a ball. It's actually cheaper than basketball because basketball requires a hoop, soccer just the ball.

It's amazing how the NFL just stood by and let a quack Nigerian completely change the narrative on the safety of their sport.

In the 1920s, the three most popular sports in America were baseball, horse racing and boxing.

I couldn’t care less about college football now. Anyone who watches that trash must have a very low IQ. Of course we have an idiot president who’s pardoning his childhood heroes so maybe it hangs around.
Oh wow, you really are retarded aren’t you? I thought it was a shtick this whole time…

Soccer won’t happen. Promoters have tried their best to get Americans to watch soccer since the 70’s when they paid Pele $1million to play in New York.

I don’t see a scenario where football doesn’t have a significant decline. All the rule changes implemented to protect players has bastardized the sport.

Football in ten years will be 70 yard field goals followed by the opposing team starting at the 35 yard line. That’s even less appealing than the NBA’s current trend seeking 7 footers who shoot 50% behind the three point line.

This is why the NFL is trying to become more appealing to the leftists, like having bad bunny play at the halftime show. Nobody can even understand what he is singing about since it isn’t in our language. He doesn’t even sound like one of us.

Youth participation rates have been yo-yoing, but generally recovering since COVID.

The real decline was the period before targeting, where cerebro-spinal injuries really threatened the game. There are as many kids playing football today in High School as there were in 1975-- and this is an era with a lot fewer kids overall.

Kind of agree with this. The NFL/etc has done a fairly decent job in advancing rules designed to limit injuries. Now, a lot of online badasses may grumble "that ain't my football", but they're not the ones slamming their head against world class athletes. I imagine some type of technology will come along that can be used in helmets to gauge the force of a hit, and that will be used to limit plays/playing time, either from single incidents or cumulatively. Not sure it fades into near obscurity.

More youth are playing soccer than football and baseball.

This has been the trend for the past 15 years or so.

Growing up playing a sport and knowing the rules creates more interest in following it.

Football is still king because the players today grew up with parents who were fans, and probably it was their favorite sport, who pushed their kids to play it and taught their kids how to play it.

But I have a feeling that as younger Millennials and Gen Z start having kids, the sport they will push their kids towards will be the one they played growing up: soccer.

They know the rules and how to play the game, so they can teach it to their kids.

Most athletes are capable of playing any sport, what determines the sport is usually which one the parents decide to focus on.

We all know the real reason football is losing popularity in this country
But we can't openly post about it for fear of the "Ban Hammer"

Another big blow to the game will be the inevitable gambling scandals, possibly involving the NFL itself.

They fricked up when they legalized sports gambling. They created another too-big-to-fail industry and when that happens, nothing is left to chance. They HAVE to rig games, and they'll get busted doing it.

Not horse racing, but boxing.

Good for the guys making some money from it before it goes away.

Kids might be playing soccer, but is the money watching it? No one’s making college kids millionaires to dominate NCAA soccer

yep. football is one of the few thingsthat still has mass appeal to americans regardless of age, politics, race, etc. there used to be a lot of tv shows, movies, and music that had that. entertainment is very siloed now.

people can have very different media consumption habits than their friends who are the same age, have the same general background, and similar interests.

NIL and its future forms more than offset the core cultural decay in your prediction.
