Where on earth did you get the idea that I'm unemployed? I'm at work right now. I've gone maybe 6 months total unemployed over the last 30+ years.

Absolutely. I'm just saying that more than once on this board, people have given advice that "company culture" matters as much as salary. Its bull. Your company doesn't care about you.

I think when people use the company culture line, they are comparing to an environment where you get along with your employees, vs going to a toxic environment where you dread having to deal with coworkers/corporate. In this situations, the culture does matter as much, if not more, than the salary.

Hell, I worked for a company that boasted about work/life balance. But, would call you into the office if you worked less than 8am - 7pm. And, as it was told to me several times, they push 50 work weeks because I was free after 40.

Everyone I have encountered who says something like, "They'll post your job before you're buried" has never signed a paycheck on the front, only the back.

"company culture" is just a fancy way of saying boss attitude. If your boss is a people person, you will think the culture is fine and dandy. If not, you will think about other jobs.

Culture does matter. I'd rather work in an environment where my time away from work is respected and there's not a "culture" where to get ahead you have to sacrifice that time away from work.

That ranks right up there with thinking you cannot be replaced... you can and will be replaced when needed, even if it eventually takes hiring 2 people to do what you were doing.

HR sent his funeral info. That’s pretty nice. They have to fill his job so they can stay in business and pay you and the other employees.

So because he died no one can ever fill his position?

I mean how long do you wait?

On the flip side, employees dont give a frick about you. They would rather sit at home than do work, they would rather not take care of their own health missing work due to poor health, they steal from you, they put your entire company at risk with bad decisions. They would leave in a heart beat when offered another job.

Goes both ways.

ACDC's lead singer died unexpectedly in February of 1980.
5 months later they released their historic Back in Black album with a new lead singer, of which they give a lot of credit to for the creation of the album. Everyone knows Bon Scott played a big role in creating the album, yet was given no credit once the album was released.
ACDC had to rightfully give credence to their new lead guy.

I think you're misunderstanding what that means.

A good company culture means you'll be relatively happy working there. Friendly team members, good work - life balance, helpful HR, competent management

It's more about quality of life while at work, and less about the company actually being loyal to you or caring deeply about you as a person.

My company paid for a coworker and his wifes medical bills after they were in a car wreck.

I mean straight up paid for them on a non work related accident. He came back for two weeks then quit.

yes every man for himself.

For every shitty employer i can find you shite employees that treat their employers like shite.

A wise old man once told me when I started working “There is a reason they give you an employee number because that’s what you are, a number”

I've heard that saying many times myself throughout my years working.

100% of the time it was come from people who failed to advance because they put out only the minimum effort required or people who underperformed regularly.

This is a Boomer lesson, not a young person lesson

fricking this. The same people that go out of their way to criticize young people for their lack of “loyalty” are now realizing that companies don’t give a shot about them?

When people had pensions they would put up with a lot of bullshite. When companies stopped offering them they were “shocked” that people would leave to go elsewhere.

Mine does, but I work for a family business and I've known my owner since I was 5. Culture absolutely does make a difference; I took an initial pay cut to get out of a corporate law firm environment 10 years ago. It was absolutely worth less money to not dread waking up and going to work every day
