Big disagreement with someone. If I get a business gift, like a back massager, nice bottle of wine, box full of prime steaks, whatever-- I google it to see how much it costs.
His opinion is "who does that"?, as if it's some mortal sin.
After all, it's a business deal. They want my business. I want to see how bad they want it.
What says the OT?
Every single person in this thread telling you it’s douchey or trashy is an idiot. There is nothing wrong with being curious about the worth of something you received. As long as you aren’t doing it in front of them or bitching about the value of it to someone else, it seems like a totally normal thing to be curious about.

yes, for any situation OTHER that the Op's.
People in business aren't giving you gifts because they care about you, they want something. Googling prices to see just how much they want something isn't irrational.

You're a regifter, aren't you?

Good point, but no, I own the business.
It’s humorous that you think this changes the ethics of the scenario.

What does your companies policy say?

You’ve got a closet full of gifts waiting to be re-gifted don’t you?
Posted on 4/4/26 at 5:40 pm to TigerGman
People are shitting on you, but that's one of those things people do, but don't tell anyone they did. There can be a subtle message behind the cost of a gift that someone gives you and that doesn't mean you do not appreciate it, its just knowledge that can give you perspective of a working business relationship.

Where I work, you are obligated to spend under certain amounts, especially for the type of gift it is.

Our gift policy is $200. I Google. I help oversee the policy for the company.

Looking up the price of a gift immediately shows an unappreciative attitude and perhaps judgemental one. Your enjoyment or opinion of the gift should not be dependent on price ideally.

This thread has taught me we need more ethics training on Main Street USA.

You clearly are not in the oil field if you deem these are gifts worthy of getting business…Bahaha

Were you kids with you at Hooters while you did the search?

You sound like a douche Karen. Did you ask him for a gift receipt while you were at it?

I might do it but not to “see how much they want my business” or because I’m cheap etc. More because I’m a bit weird and inquisitive.
