Mountain Valley Water began bottling and selling water in 1871. Pharmacists Peter and John Greene invested in a mineral spring in the Ouachita Mountains of Hot Springs, Arkansas and renamed the spring after a nearby township, Mountain Valley. They then bottled and distributed the water throughout the region and eventually, across the country.
Brother Dave Gardner, a comedian back in the day, said look at these dumb southerners selling water to those brilliant Yankees….haha

Ever fill up your tire at a gas station?
Why yes. Yes I did. A couple of months ago I went to use one for the first time in a long time. I put a quarter in and nothing. Tried a second quarter expecting a different result. Still nothing. I went inside to complain and get my 50 cents back and the owner told me “Sir, it’s two dollars, when’s the last time used used one ?”

Actually, it may not belong to you. It depends on state law
This is true. In Brazil no one owns surface water.

My brother has a well in his yard.. Cleanest water you will taste BTW.. If he wanted, he could set up a business and start bottling it up and selling it. The well is on his property. He has the ability to access it.

How is selling water legal?

It’s much better than that. They actually drill my water wells and have to maintain them for years I specify, all while I sell the water back to them at my fair market rate.

I was amazed when I saw the first gas station air compressor that required money, then blown away when I saw one that took credit cards.
We grew up with almost every gas station having free air and water near the pumps.

You pay for water?
Fill up my 40oz stanley (frick Mingo) before I leave from my fridge, then fill it up for free at work
Anywhere we typically go, it can also be had for free (restaurant, gym, etc)

I just can't grasp the concept
You put a product in a bottle and people are willing to give you money for it. What the hell is not to understand? They could go get their own water and put it in a bottle but they choose to pay you to do it.

I see where you have to work to product those. The water thing is just like walking around sucking up money out of puddles.
If you’re confidant in your thinking you should start selling that “free” water. Clearly people are buying, and you know a way to limit your cost of sales to zero so have at it.

You are selling something that doesn't belong to you. I know you have to follow fda laws and whatnot but how is it legal for me to just find a pond and fill up some bottles and sell them? Water doesn't belong to anyone.
You think people south of us invading our country is legal too dont you?

Water doesn't belong to anyone.
Buying water from some source and then packaging and transporting it all are a product.
But the real answer is that if you can get some fool to buy it, then it works.
I just keep a couple of stainless steel bottles and fill them with filtered water every day. BCAAs in one and water in the other.

We sell water all day everyday! It’s not who we are but our clients have a need and are willing to pay for convenience from one vendor at fair market price!

I guess labor, equipment usage and all other infrastructure just appeared one day like a fricking magic trick?
