Wow… I’d never even heard the term PTO until my wife started throwing it around. Figures it comes from a faggie

I really don’t understand what it’s like having a job. Always worrying about how much vacation time and PTO you have, bitching about health insurance, needing to ask permission to go somewhere and take your family on vacation. And most people with jobs are always trying to figure out ways to work less and get out of work. Looking forward to retirement and counting the years, and if you have enough in your 401k, etc… It’s just foreign to me. I’ve done my own thing for about 25 years. If I want to go, I just go. But I enjoy what I do and it’s fun, so I don’t really ever retiring,..or worrying about my PTO.

A two week vacation is lengthy but not unheard of. Beyond that it starts looking more like a paid leave of absence.

What do you do for work?

When I was working our company decided to let us cash out our pto - that was a really sweet gig. They did it for a few years, it was good while it lasted.

It’s actually stupid advice. A burnt out worker is not a good worker. I did this in my first few years out of school and deeply regret it. If you work anywhere that doesn’t let you or want you to use pto in your first year or two you are not at a good workplace.
The advice had nothing to do with what your boss wants or expects.

How much pto used in one sitting is too much?
One week is good.
Anything more should be reserved for funerals or medical emergencies.

If you ask me it depends on your role. If you ask my employees, every available minute no matter what.

My work getting intense but the Mrs wants to go 2 weeks vacation twice this year. I’m a worker ant so a little bothered about spending a month off.
some places give a bonus if you take two weeks off at once, mine does and its substantial.

none of our jobs are important

I took a little over two weeks to go to New Zealand. Some destinations can't be done as normal vacations.
My friend has a wife who likes long vacations. He joins her for half the trip and then she has a friend or relative join in for the other half.

Everyone is replaceable at work. Don’t ever think you are not.

They also pay you a shitload of money. We won’t quit

Does your PTO roll over infinitely (like the state) or do you have a ceiling then have to use the margin by a certain time or lose it?
If the latter, most businesses I know of push their employees to take that time before they lose it. If that's the case, maybe bank a frickton then claim needing to take it before you lose it?

The limit does not exist. My company has a straight PTO policy (no vacation, no sick days) and you get 4 weeks a year. Everything rolls over but I think the most you can bank it 12 weeks.
Take as much as you want, when you want.

so my work gives us 2 weeks of bonus pay if we take 2 weeks off at a time. I should leave all that money on the table because KYwildcat thinks my job isnt important?
ftr it was implemented to get upper level management, including VPs to actually use their vacation.
I guess every single person at my company has an unimportant job according to you.
or
maybe you work for a shitty company
