Yes, they can suspect, but not every lab diamond is D-E/IF. To confirm, they’d have to have specialized equipment to look for growth patterns, etc.
I’m sure their suspicions are more accurate than not now that labs are ubiquitous
but it isn’t as simple as some of the “lab diamonds are not real diamonds” guys in this thread seem to believe.

Well, with a lab grown diamond you get a perfectly latticed carbon structure.
And with a natural diamond, you get a perfectly latticed carbon structure, AND you get sodomized by the jeweler on the price
