It's OK if big huge city full of noise and people and noisy people is your thing. I prefer the outdoors and quiet.
I don’t think we necessarily want to live downtown. Maybe on the outskirts or within 30 minutes. I plan on keep working and she is a nurse. Don’t mind commuting but want to keep it reasonable.

I'm not gonna tell you what I googled to determine where I want to move to, but have you considered Vermont?

there are a lot of decent burbs around Ft. Worth, I live in Keller, nice little town, good schools, twenty minutes to downtown Ft. Worth(medical centro)
ETA: they're competing for nurses, my daughter works at a hospital, they're giving sign on, retention, and recommendation bonuses for nurses, $50k was the figure the last time I heard it mentioned

My wife also went downtown Dallas and she didn’t care for it. She also said Fort Worth was more laid back.

I live there. Don’t know of a swingers community tho.

That sounds awesome. I know she wouldn’t have a problem finding a job. I’ll have to figure out what I want to do. I saw Lockheed Martin is around Fort Worth. Heard they hire a lot of Veterans so that maybe something to look into.

I’m not. I am a Supply Sergeant in the NG and was a wheel mechanic before that

LM does hire a lot of vets, it wouldn't hurt to go on their website and see what areas they're looking for, I have a very good friend who's an engineer for them and he sends me an application once or twice a quarter for positions they're trying to fill

Fort Worth sadly has gone full Woke, pick one of the nicer conservative suburbs and you should be fine.
FW is not as outwardly pretentious as Dallas, but it is certainly there in the city.

I live 100 mile southwest of Ft Worth and know the city very well and surrounding towns. I hate cities, but if I had to choose a city to live in in Texas it would be Ft Worth.
Also, what are y'all looking for? Living in the city, suburbs, small town, close to the city....? Based on that information I could offer you more information. No way I would live in El Paso or Austin.

I’ve been here since 2010 and really like it. Happy to answer any specific questions.

We live in Granbury about 50 miles southwest of Fort Worth. We enjoy the small town living with the amenities of the big city only an hour away.
We moved here from Dallas. We find we are more comfortable with Fort Worth than we were with Dallas.

Big city with a small town feel. Dallas is a big city with a douchebag feel.
Ft Worth folks are just as bad as Dallas folks when it comes to being pretentious. They just do it with boots and trucks as opposed to designer clothes and cars.

I live in Southlake. Tons for great areas around/ close to Ft Worth. Aledo, Keller, Grapevine, Argyle, Benbrook are all suburbs I’d recommend. Montgomery Plaza area if you want in Ft Worth proper

Weatherford is the answer baw!
I’m gonna have to politely ask everyone to quit moving out west of Fort Worth. I moved to Hudson oaks about 7 or 8 years ago. Never hit any traffic to or from work and now they’ve put in 3 or 4 major housing developments and the traffic is shite now. I moved further into weatherford recently. Only 10 or 12 houses on my street.
On a real note, weatherford is great for 1-2 acre properties where you’re slightly spread out but close enough to everything.
Anything inside the 820 loop in Fort Worth is asinine expensive or a real shithole. Sometimes both. The tcu area and aledo is full of wannabe boogie 2 uppity travel ball baws. Get outside the loop and you’ll get a little more bang for your buck and get more room between your neighbors.

I live in Dallas but have friends in FW and I like it over there. They are much more progressive than Dallas in terms of City Planning. Their river area has bike paths and other amenities. They are working on creating an island in the river and having multi-use developments on the island. They have great museums and a few different entertainment areas with bars and restaurants. You said maybe live 30 minutes away so look at Denton. It's 40 minutes away with average traffic but Denton has its own Courthouse Square area that is full of bars and restaurants. My Parents have lived in Denton for 30 years and love it.

We lived in Richland Hills and liked it a lot, lots of shopping close by and easy access to Ft. Worth. Gets hot as the blazes in the summer and storms could get extreme. I worked there when we lived there and we enjoyed being there. I will point out that the "Real West" starts just west of Ft. Worth and the transition from Ft. Worth to the actual west is pretty shocking - Maybe about Mineral Wells as I recall.
Watch out for the big big housing developments they do out there. The use of Hispanic Carpenters and such makes for a somewhat junky Mc Mansion House. You will recognize them. They look like 28 side-by-side streets of Ticky-Tack houses.
