I appreciate it. Right now, I'm probably headed to S FL for the winter then back to AL in the spring.

I’ve cut way back on my consumption. Pretty much only on weekends. Had 2 beers this afternoon and have felt bloated since. Meh.

I’ve been sleeping much better. May cut it out completely after football season.

Most everyone drinks, and many drink a lot, but the simple reality is that alcohol is a garbage drug.

I haven’t really had liquor in a decade. Maybe a few margaritas or bloody Mary’s. I love having beers, but never enough to be fricked up. Hangovers are brutal and I don’t like my kids seeing me drinking heavily.

Drinking is so ingrained in what many of us consider having fun. It takes awhile to realize that you can do that same stuff without drinking and enjoy it. Also, many times you’ll find that don’t really like some of that stuff at all, it was the associated drinking that attracted you.

Hard to explain but I’m five years sober and still finding stuff that I enjoy that I never would have done when I was drinking. I went ride my new bike in the trails all morning, that’s a new hobby for me. I don’t give a rats arse about football anymore and that used to consume my Fall weekends. (Along with drinking)

Quit dip and alcohol a week ago. 15 years of dipping, 5 years of daily drinking, usually on the heavy side. Starting to feel good, first 4-5 days sucked, no sleep.

I can only tell you about me. I woke up every morning saying I'm not going to get drunk today like I did yesterday. About 10 am I felt so bad that I would just drink a beer or two. That turned into about 20 more. Next morning I would say I'm not going to get drunk today like I did yesterday. Same thing happened a after day. For year or two. Finally I stumbled into an AA meeting. Fast forward I am now sober 5 years as of July 10 of this year. My life has never been better. Business has took off. Regained relationship with family. Even ran for public office and got elected!! Imagine that. I wish you the best. If you ever want to talk message me here.

Too relatable.

Problem is my hobbies travels and relaxation all inter mingle alcohol.

Your hobbies travels and relaxation become a million times better without alcohol. It’s almost impossible to fathom, as it was for me, but it’s the 100% truth. Football games/tailgating, weddings, the beach, crawfish boils, Saturday nights, post-yardwork, it all became more fun and rewarding without the booze. You just have to have faith and trust the experience of others. I started doing that in March of 2012. Haven’t looked back.

People like Hemphead are the ones who are dependent on the sauce. OP needs to grab some self control and limit it to either three quality drinks (not sugary mixed drink bs. Cut to the chase and drink quality bourbon or rye) or switch to very light beer.

Alternate with waters every drink/beer.

Only drink one or two nights a week.

This way you’ll be able to have a drink with friends at dinner etc. the other route is too permanent/absolute.

The nagging devil that I deal with 24 hours a day seven days a week. I drink and i do it too much.

When I do lose control I try to mix in some bottles of water. That eliminates the hangover. I’m not so bad off that I know I need to move on yet but I know that demon is always at my doorstep.

I unintentionally limit my normal drinking by drinking really rich or flavorful cocktails/wine. After 1 or two I don’t really want anymore. To rich to keep going.

Not really interested in drinking some shitty flavorless beer or cheap whiskey where the only “benefit” is to catch a buzz.

Drinking some iced down cheap beer while watching football is my thing about 10 days a year

The other 350 days I’m down for a good cocktail

Anxiety

Especially since having kids so late in life, it takes very little alcohol to create bad anxiety in the ams.

And good sleep is THE most important thing you can do for your mental and physical health. I have a healthy baseline diet and exercise, so quality sleep is my X factor. It doesn't take much alcohol to absolutely wreck sleep. It prevents deep sleep and interrupts sleep for peeing.

I did an 8-month teetotal this year. About to go back on it.

Yeah, that’s not at all how I drank. I’ll never understand how in the hell you can do that. I envy people like you. I’d enjoy a nice cocktail, but that was just the ramp up to a highway of hell.

I gave it up as a New Years resolution on 12/31/98. Still going strong. Best decision of my life. Most of the pro drinking comments are from people who are around the age I was when I was still a drinker. I gave it up when I was 38.

Idk. I feel “full” or “satisfied” or whatever after 1 or two glasses of a monster wine.

I’m also talking about my typical week night drinking where I’m not really trying to catch any buzz at all. Now if I’mon a beach vacation or tailgating or at a bar with my baws that’s a different story.
