Back in the day, it was "if its brown, flush it down; if its yellow, let it mellow".
Must have been some kind of hippy ecology/don't waste water thing.

Half of my frozen batch meals are in Guidry's containers.
I don't go as far as washing and putting away used Ziplocks for later use, but I'm not weird about throwing half an onion into one that I just pulled like a wrapped block of cheese from.

I travel a lot for work so I’m constantly staying in hotels ranging from cheap motels to 5 star resorts and everything in between. No matter the stay, I’ll snag wash cloths, hand towels, bath towels, bar soaps, body wash, shampoos, conditioners, etc. My bathroom is stocked with a plethora of said assorted items.

we keep, clean and reuse jars, plastic containers and ziploc bags.
I do a ton of canning and buy at least 3-4 dozen Mason jars each year to replenish what I hand out with pickled vegetables, jams and jellies, hot sauces, etc.
Some come back and the ones I use for my own consumption are cleaned when empty to reuse again and again. I do buy lids and screw down tops in bulk and those are changed out as needed.
I'll keep some plastic containers if I think they are heavy-duty enough to keep but I'd never clean out ziploc bags to reuse. That's about like rinsing paper towels and letting them dry to use again in my eyes.

When I go anywhere where you get your own napkins I grab a shitload on my way out to put in my glove box.

Change my oil myself
cut my own lawn
do all my pool maintenance myself
I don't pay people to do things for me that I can do myself

I bring my own slice of cheese and poached egg from home to put on a McDonald's Sausage biscuit on the way to work.

Double stack toasted loaf bread so sooo good!

Use Walmart bags as a garbage ??
When we got married and I sold my house and moved into my wife’s house, she had this wire rack thing mounted inside her cabinet door under the sink. It’s made to hang plastic grocery bags on to use as a trash can. We fill it up about every day or other day but it’s only us two. But haven’t bought trash bags in two decades.
