Yes, they begin to stop once you put the ring on; but I'm pretty sure they do not start back up when you take the ring back.

You obviously don't know the late 30s - 50 year old divorced, single woman market....they get hungry

Get a lab grown diamond. Same identical shite as a natural one except no one died mining it, and 75% of the cost.

Who wants to buy this diamond ring?
She took it off her finger, now it doesn't mean a thing
This diamond ring doesn't shine for me anymore
And this diamond ring doesn't mean what it meant before
So if you've got someone whose love is true
Let it shine for you

I don't think divorce ever occurred. I think she wore him out and got the company when he died.

Died doing what he loved?

This is why I buy from a jeweler that makes their own jewelry. They typically have a decent buyback program when you buy their jewelry, always ask, because they can reuse the metal and reset the stones instead of trying to sell a used ring. I would figure Tiffany would do the same, might want to go talk to them and see what they offer.

How in god's name do you have 63,000 posts? What is your occupation? I'm genuinely curious.

Coincidentally, I was reading about Tiffany & Co. earlier this week, and they have a policy of not making buyback offers on their own stuff. The diamonds they sell are apparently on consignment from wholesalers, so it would be foolish of them to tie up actual cash in inventory. Any offer they could possibly make would be so low as to be insulting.
