Health aside. Anyone ever truly think about the financial drain it is?

Go to any sporting event/concert. You’re $30 in the can before you’re even feeling remotely buzzed. It’s such a waste of money. I can spend that $30 on a shirt to support the band I’m seeing or just buy better seats for the game knowing I don’t need to budget for booze.

I know for Saints games I don't go in the Superdome until right before player introductions. I would drink outside the Dome so I wouldn't feel any need to pay $15 for some generic domestic beer during the game.

I'm fully planning on doing dry January this year. And not because I'm even an alcoholic. I really have already cut back significantly on my drinking. But I'm really doing it for my health reasons. My goal is not to drink at all until Mardi Gras weekend. I'll allow myself a few drinks Mardi Gras weekend, but nothing crazy. Then after Mardi Gras, I'll give up alcohol again for Lent and probably not drink again until we get close to summer (I still enjoy a nice drink on a hot summer day).

I'm also trying to switch what I drink when I do drink. Getting away from beer (domestic, import, craft) and all the empty calories that come with it. Focus more on non-alcoholic drinks, wine or a few mixed drinks.

But absolutely, with alcohol prices getting crazy, it's a huge financial drain. I can only imagine that money I've wasted and honestly I would put myself in the middle when it comes to spending on alcohol. Honestly, even in the last few years I've only drunk at events or at home on the weekend. I really don't ever drink at a restaurant due to the prices. It's ridiculous but in a way good as it makes me not want to drink.

I average like 3 beers a month, so it’s pretty much a non issue for me.

The last few years this has been me. I've already cut out almost all beers during the week. I would say average 2 - 3 on the weekend, though I've gone weeks without drinking. Every now and then I would have drinks on a weekday when meeting up with friends. But yeah it's not about overdoing it for me, truly about trying to be healthier in general.

I don't drink or do any drugs. Just smoke weed and take some acid and shrooms from time to time. No drugs or drink, though.

Just find something new and never bring alcohol around it. Do that for 5 years, then you’re cured lol

I don’t drink alcohol because I’m on Coumadin.

I don’t miss it.

In retrospect, IF I had invested every penny I spent on alcohol from 19 to 32, I would be much richer.

Drinking and drugs aren’t a problem. I’m just ready to drop it all and go 100% clean.

Might as well go Vegan while you’re at it…

The average life span is 73 years old so I’m gonna enjoy life and i actually truly love the taste of an ice cold beer. It is magical when it hits for the first time. That tingly feeling you get is a huge rush of endorphins

So drink non-alcoholic then.

It's actually 83 years. At least if you are white and live in NYC (believe it or not).

No, but we’ve done dry January the past 2-3 years and planning to do it again. But I know several people who have gone totally sober and it benefited them. Maybe one day for me but I’m not bored yet. Too many good cocktail bars and breweries out there in the world that I still want to experience.

This. Doing DJ for second year in a row. It’s a great reset, but I still love going out to a nice cocktail bar, or brewery with the wife on a Saturday.

Anyone else just decided to go sober 100% and how’s that going?

No one truly changes until they're sick and tired of being sick and tired. And even then, people only make the leap when they genuinely believe what's waiting on the other side is better than what they're clinging to now.

Change, in order for it to last, must start and stop from within. Anything else -- or coming from someone else, sounds like an expectation, which to many equals a demand.

I don't know if I'm going to go totally sober as I might have a drink for a special occasion such as a birthday. I'm really going to give it a shot though.
