Defensive Driving courses were an option in Louisiana at least when I was in high school
That should be part of the state curriculum.

When i was in monroe, i got several tickets. Never given a warning, lots of speed traps, absolute road pirates. Ive been in florida maybe 7 or 8 years now and i havent been pulled over once, and if i did, i garentee it would be a warning. I hate the state gov of Louisiana.

You only get one 894. Im not a lawyer but have been told don't waste your get out of jail free card on a speeding ticket. Save it for something more serious like DWI.
Not a lawyer either, but have been told it is one 894 every 5 years, as long as you keep it clean during that time. Also, in my youts days, I was able to use it in Orleans & Jefferson Parish within a few months of each other. Don't know if it's because you can use it in different jurisdictions, or because the timing of the records between the jurisdictions were lagging (late 90s)

The last speeding ticket I got was coming off the Causeway early morning running late to catch a flight. I was way over the speed limit.
Mandatory court appearance. Judge recommended I plead 894 and told me not show back up in his court for another 5 years.
I believe you can use 894 for a felony only once.

there are plenty of traffic stop/money grab areas in FL, they're just as greedy as everyone else

Speeding is prevented by lightening up on the gas pedal.
Yeah, but then your gas mileage goes down because you don't get there as quickly.

Get a traffic lawyer. They go to court for you and plead it down to a non-moving violation. Pay the fine and court costs plus like $150 for the lawyer. Doesn’t show up on your driving record and you don’t have to take time off work to go to court.

I would save the article 894 in case he gets something more serious.
This.

Just pay the damn ticket.
One speeding ticket isn't going to change your life. Just tell him to stop speeding.

I got my first speeding ticket two years ago in Harahan. It went from 55 to 45 and I was doing 50. Pulled over by LSP.
I went to the DA to discuss the case, saw I had nothing on my record and simply dismissed it.
My wife got a speeding ticket in St. Bernard last year, 25 in 20, and she paid $95 to take an online course.
All that to say, just reach out to the number and explore your options.

this is actually good advice, let the kid handle it, whatever he gets out of it will be a life lesson, if it affects his insurance rates and he has to pay higher rates until it is off his record that will be a pretty good lesson about consequences for actions, if he figures out how to beat it/have it reduced on his own, that will be a learning experience too

Don't waste a 894 on a speeding ticket.
Find a traffic ticket lawyer they get the ticket changed to a non moving violation. Doesn't show up on record.

Need Parish to assist.

Just went through this with my daughter. In Jefferson Parish, and a juvenile.
The ADA informed my daughter that she can plead to the 894, and she agreed. I thought we were going to have to bring up this plea.
It is a 6 month probation. You pay court fees that day. I think she paid $91 or $94.
If another ticket is earned by the kid in that 6 month period, that ticket AND the new one are put on your record. If not, it goes away.
Hope this helps.
