quote:never understood that sentiment more. it’s really sad that 1 person, your boss, makes or breaks your job. Have had the same job at the same place for 8 years. LOVED my boss and the company.
Feel bad for you, I have a great boss.
We get bought out, organization changes, culture changes and now I have a new boss from out in CA who is obnoxious as shite. only 2 people of 14 in my department are left from before the acquisition and the average tenure of employees I worked with was 10+ years. This new CA company drove off all the people I worked with because of the awful management and culture changes.
Most recent example of what I mean. I was up to getting 20 days of PTO with my old company. Now have unlimited PTO for first year ever with this new CA company. What a joke that bullshite is. Have probably taken a total of what amounts to 15 days off so far this year. Had a week long family vacation last month and a week long family vacation with the in-laws this month and new boss straight comes out and says we’ve been taking a lot of vacations and shouldn’t take any more time off the rest of the year. My old company/boss would never ever ask that of us. In fact there were occasions where they FORCED me to put family first and take time off of work.
It’s hilarious that a mom and pop run business in LA which was a top 100 place to work every single year was eons ahead of this CA company. We had clients that had been there longer than me. One and a half years under this CA company and they’ve already got 3 of our top 10 clients terming in one calendar year. Sucks but I’m finally ready to cut ties with the company I thought I’d spend my entire life at. Looking for a new job for the first time in forever. At least there’s a decent market for data analysts.

There's no consequence where I work for leadership that cancels value added work just because they don't understand it, and they use "safety or production concerns" to stop it. My boss does this constantly to cover his arse, which he says is the most important thing we do. So any time I need to do something I email him and ask what he wants to do, just so I am making him put something on the record.

A boss really can make or break an experience.
My last boss was extremely rude, judgmental, and held grudges. I think she had an inferiority complex and, while she seemed very pleasant during the interview stage, her true personality came out more and more since I came out there.
Colleagues were crying before work in the morning, the boss was staking out outside the elevator to try to catch a colleague for being late, it was a "walking on egg shells" environment.
And God forbid you didn't answer a teams message for 10-20 minutes.
My current boss couldn't be more different. She's so understanding, so flexible, wants us to succeed in our current roles, but also understanding that we may not be at the company forever. She's kind, reasonable, and realizes that this job is not our life.
While I like aspects of my old job better, having my current supervisor makes this job 10x more preferable to the old one.

Nothing. I've learned that if I stay out of his way, he'll create his own train wrecks to get pissed about.

My boss was a coin collector, and I super glued a wheat penny to the floor in his office. He could never pick it up

"reading a book" while on the clock? Bold strategy

My former boss wanted all calls, including his own employees to go through his administrative assistant. Even though his office was a few doors down from mine and he was in his office, I had to call the assistant so she could "patch" me through to him.
The morning cleaning crew accidentally hit his extension from my phone when they were cleaning my desk. I had a stern "talking to" from my supervisor about it.
I figured out we had a spare phone line in a supply closet that no one really knew about. I hooked up a phone and when I dialed my extension, instead of saying the employee's name who was calling, it just said "Ext 244". I would dial his number a few time per day, let it ring once and hang up.
We had countless meetings on it and he put my supervisor in charge to find out where it was coming from. No one could ever find it. This went on for almost a month and then they put in a call to the phone company to find the line. Then the fun was over. Thankfully, he left a few years ago.

I like my boss. If I didn't like my boss, I would either move teams or employers.
I don't get it, I'm "middle management" but so many assholes think bossing people around is managing.

In general, people quit their boss not their company, but if, like the OP, a person feels the need to subtly piss their boss off, then it’s better to just find a better boss like many of your coworkers did, or lay everything out on the table with the boss to attempt to fix the problem, and accept that it may end in your leaving.

The parts of his job he isn’t capable of that I do but he takes credit for. He secretly knows it.

I legitimately would be fired if I did this, that's how bad my old boss sucked. Definitely would be seeing HR.

When I use the Cc:/Bcc: option when presenting cost saving options to upper management..
Nope, you’re not taking credit for my ideas like you did others in my group.
