Absolutely. People like him are exactly why I don't answer my door ever unless I am expecting someone to come over. In the age of cell phones, if you need me and its an emergency and you're knocking on my door, you'll call me.

They are people doing a job. I’m not mean spirited and it’s easy to just say no thanks.
Now, when they push back, i point to the no solicitation sign and get a bit stronger worded.

Come to my door at night and I’ll grab my 45 before I tell you to go away through a closed door.
Also had a relative got stabbed almost to death by answering a solicitor.
I never open the door for unsolicited people.

Funny shite! Ive done that a couple of times in my life. God dang if you are a male or female make it obvious for christ sake. It does suck to hit a female with a Sir. If its a male who gives a frick you deserve it if you dont make it where 100% we all know what you are!!
