Doesn’t work that way.
I think you only get back pay from the day you file, not from the day you leave service. If someone had 20% disability, their check would be $347/month. I'd have a hard time believing someone would get a check for $104K.

soldiers get non-combat related disabilities the same way civilians get non-combat related disabilities
Her husband was a MP, so there are a gazillion ways he could’ve gotten hurt, obviously.
There’s always a level of doubt with any disability case - civilian or not. Maybe some of the military people have access to the doctors that give out handicapped placards to everyone.

If anyone deserves compensation it’s the men who went over and did the work. Yes we may disagree on how disabled someone is but I’d rather my money going to these folks than all the lazy people we have that we literally supplement a life for.

Wrong. VA disability will pay from the date of claim, not date of injury.

I haven’t read all the responses, but as someone who did 32 years in AF, including deployments, there’s a ton of malingering going on. I personally know of several folks who did less than me getting VA disability. Very few folks in the AF did enough to warrant disability. It’s a huge scam/entitlement mentality. Those working the system gum it up for the truly deserving.

This pretty much correct but its actually from the day you notify the VA of your intent to file. You have 1 year to file a completed claim. If you fail to file within one year then it reverts back to the day you actually file your claim.

Same. One dude works on heavy equipment. The other one raises horses.
Disability fraud across the board is fricked. Seems like 100% disability would be reserved for a distinct set of people, as in invalids, severe brain injuries, quadriplegics, etc...

it also helps a lot if you start aiming for disability while you are still in the military by getting some medical issues on file, whatever they may be. See the psychiatrist, go in for that sprained ankle, claim some back injury, etc. All that will help greatly when you get out in getting that 100% disability rating much quicker that is so coveted and valuable to any veteran. A lot of military personnel plan ahead on getting disability like that before they even get out of the military.

I agree, if you got your legs blown off, get 100% disability by all means, you deserve it.

I actually dont know anyone who gets military disability who I can say has some actual disabling injury but I know quite a few that really dont have anything wrong with them. Who would complain about an extra $4000 a month if it were just handed to you.

We need to get DOGE to investigate and crack down on all of these lazy bastard Vets who are gaming the disability system and stealing all of our money that we could other wise use to bring more sick, poor and criminal illegal aliens to live here for free on our dime.
Should Mexican Cartel Members receive Disability Benefits for fighting in the War Against Trump's America? I say it's a question that needs to be asked.

Things impact people differently. "Doing less than you" means nothing to anyone.
This country has given hundreds of billions of dollars to countries around the world who hate our guts, I will never frown upon a Veteran getting theirs. ~$182 billion in total aid to Ukraine? ~$50 billion in straight financial aid? And you're worried about Veterans "gumming up the system?"
The government entered into a contract with Veterans to cover a ton of issues stemming from service. it's a two way street knowing that you might get put into some shite or get injured somehow or another performing a military task and them saying we're going to pay you for it and any impact it has on your life.
I ask every fellow Veteran I come across what their rating is (strongly recommend other Veterans do this too) and I still can't believe the amount I talk to that deserve it and:
1. Don't claim it because "pride" or "someone needs it more" without taking into context that it's earned, not given.
2. Don't use any of their VA benefits whatsoever.

So if someone notifies the VA and files within a year and gets approved before the 1 cutoff, you're looking at a nice fat check of $25K or more if you're at 100%
