My cousin Big Marlon says he’s a professional because that’s what the truck driving school said. He holds himself out as a professional truck driver and thinks he’s entitled to professional courtesies. I just don’t consider truck driving to be a professional occupation. What do you think?
Help me understand why you thought this was something worth potentially coming to blows over.

I am not a drinker but I saw a youtube video of someone making a Bloody Mary and got damn it looked good
is it a British drink?
Completely random two nights ago I was catching up with a colleague and his mother-in-law is British and was evacuated during the war to a nunnery
That's just totally random but true story

Without truck drivers we wouldn’t have stuff. And they wouldn’t have a job. Someone would do it. I know this is not everyone that drives a truck, but in my former career I was in management in transportation and truck drivers are some of the biggest POS humans around. Awful people for the most part. They get no courtesy from me. They need to quit whining like babies and do there job and be happy they are making money.

If a high school science teacher is a “professional” then an experienced hazmat trucker absolutely is a professional.

So you're OK with anyone jumping behind the wheel of an 18 wheeler and driving next to your family without training and certifications?
my dad was a general contractor, we had all types of heavy equipment, including tractors (the things that pull the trailers,) there wasn’t a thing I didn’t operate, and mostly I just climbed on it, figured it out and went, one day there was a delivery to our yard in La in brand new Peterbilt, the truck was going back empty to Little Rock and I was supposed to get on a jet and go to Little Rock and drive a truck about 3/4 the size back home with what didn’t fit on the 18 wheeler, I told my dad I wanted to see what that big truck was like and drive it up to pick up the other truck, I just jumped in, started driving and figured it out, including a fuel stop and docking in Little Rock, no big deal

My way of thinking is anything you do for a living is a profession and if you get proficient at it, then you are a professional.
You don't need to be a charter member of Mensa to be considered a professional.

I’d say any occupation that requires special skills or training that take time to learn and become proficient in would qualify as a professional.
quote:What special courtesies do doctors and lawyers get? That they tend to be able to afford luxuries because they work in a high income profession? Or that doctors have medical device and pharmaceutical reps wine and dine them sometimes? Tons of professional jobs have vendor sales reps that’ll take you out on their company’s dime if they’re trying to sell you on their products.
He says whatever ones doctors and lawyers get. That’s about as specific as he gets.

Honestly, I was hoping this story ended with Big Marlon kicking your arse.

Why dost thou concern thyself with minutia?

So instead of letting your cousin maintain dignity with his work, you just have to invalidate his experiences in front of the whole family?
Are you dumb, or just an a-hole?
