My family began using WhatsApp when our niece decided to study abroad.
As I recall, she avoided having to get special SIM cards for us to communicate with her. Some of us had Apple and others had Android.

It's the most widely used message and call app in the world. I use it daily since it's how my kids daycare sends out notices.
Met up with a group of friends this past summer in Europe. They loved the fact that you can share a live location on it when meeting up in places like Amsterdam.

It's great for transferring large image/video files. Up to either 2gb or 4gb I think. Not sure if you can share other file formats but it is definitely useful for video file. I used it recently to share GoPro video from a recent ski trip to family members.

Well I signed up. Thanks for all the help. Being able to send high rez images will be good. I am working on them carrying some of my products and I have lots of pictures to send. That will help....

I had to download it to communicate with my Mexican yard guys. My daughter said that's how south Americans text because they rarely have cell signal and have to rely on wifi.
