My favorite are vehicles with snorkels. When we get street flooding in Houston 8” to 10” deep it is hilarious to watch people with snorkels hug the lane on the inside where the water is 2” deep. Or better yet… wait for an opening so they can avoid standing water puddles.

I drive a 5th gen 4Runner Off Road.
It's a custom overland build and it has a snorkel.
Like most people you don't understand the purpose of a snorkel.
It's a sealed intake that brings clean cold air to the engine. It reduces the hot dirty dusty air that enters the engine when running down dirt trails. Yes, in high water it helps keep the splashing water out of your air intake but it doesn't turn your vehicle into a submarine.
On a plus side I have discovered that chicks really dig snorkels.

Never thought about much it until this thread, tbh.

I know most manufacturers aren't making sedans.

The real question I find interesting: Are they selling because people independently want this stuff or have they been trained to want it?

Its always the latter. Advertising works. Diamonds. Lawns. Rubicons. You want it because Madison Avenue has told you so for your entire life.

Jeep dudes get a rubber duck every time they get a handy from another dude. I guess they buy them for the action and the bro country.

This x1000.

Same reason everybody wears truckers hats these days and all the hipsters started wearing construction attire. Also Carhartts. Y'all know how many Carhartts are sold to folks that do not do anything outdoorsy or manual? Probably 3/4 these days.

Also see: Filson. $800 "working" coats. yeah oky. Dorks.

Not reading the whole thread but has anyone mentioned they are doomsday/apocalypse-ready vehicles? We will have to be able to go around stalled and burning cars, zombies, into and over rioting mobs, etc.

Recently got my wife an all wheel drive vehicle. Not that we are off roading, but we canoe a lot and shuttle with her vehicle. We needed her to be able to go some places that the BMW wasn’t going.

Some (most?) snorkels aren't for wading in water, they are to bring in cleaner air to the intake. The theory is that the snorkel is above the majority of the dirt and dust...

ETA - I now see someone else posted the same above...

The F-250,RAM, whatever are the new BMW/Mercedes in corporate world. It’s hilarious to see a bank parking deck full of these huge trucks that have never had a grain of dirt on them. Tires never touched grass or mud. Sad.

I made the mistake of pulling into a Houston parking garage when I had my GMC 3500. Talk about an oh shite moment. And that truck was probably shorter than modern F250s or 2500s.
