I minored in Classical Civilization so at one point in time, yes, I thought about the Roman Empire pretty much daily.

Now? Couple times a week maybe. I go into tiktok rabbit holes about history quite often.

Vast generalizations but a lot of men seem to be fascinated with history in general, with a fixation to various wars.

Women seem to be fascinated with true crime.

I am a woman and think about the Roman Empire/ Holy Roman Empire in a regular basis. I have taught history for three decades.

How many kids today under 30 think about the Spanish Inquisition?

Normal people think about the Roman Empire every day

I found that to be very true with regard to people living in southern Italy.

While y’all are thinking about the Romans, I am thinking about the Spanish Inquisition!

Speak for yourself, my ole lady just finished a 35 page paper on what song Nero was likely playing while Rome burned

No basis in reality whatsoever. Tacitus and Suetonias were writing fan fiction mostly going for the best story. No factual basis. Nero couldn't have been playing the lute or the lyre on top of his palace because it had burnt. Most other accounts from the time have Nero greatly admired for his response to the fire, including making sure grain was imported to the city for the citizens, implementing new fire codes for the rebuild, and trying to abate the fire by building firewalls to save the yet to burn portions.

The Romans did establish the Julian calendar. In a sense, if you know what day it is, then you are thinking about the Romans.

Only after Julius Caesar noticed from Cleopatra's Egyptian calendar that the Roman Calendar did not account for solar cycles. But Caesar's new calendar did account for leap year so yes he made a difference. The Egyptians had the first 365 day a year calendar, but they lost a day every 4 years. They tried to rectify the discrepancy with epagomenal days, but still a little off. So the Julian was indeed an improvement.

Just one of many articles.

Hopefully its just an American thing because all other countries have no business even thinking about becoming that powerful LOL.

The people in America can safely say they have the greatest military ever assembled on Gods green earth.

Listen woman I don't want to talk about your day at work or the post the girl you went to HS made on FB, I want to talk about the Boxer Rebellion and your inability to do so on short notice is really limiting our marriage

This. This is my absolute fricking life. I want to speak about how the Roman’s improved the phalanx concept and used it to smash the Greeks, and how the Huns tormented the Romans in the periphery, but when they faced true Italian Roman legions it was a stalemate. Why? I want to discuss this!!!!!
