I bit the bullet last year and got it. You are correct. I watch YouTube as much as I watch regular tv.

I've been a Premium subscriber for about three years and I watch it way more than I watch YouTube TV. I love it and they have a decent selection of movies for free with no ads. I watched "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" last night.

I’ve definitely noticed it over the past month-ish. It’s like someone at Google turned the ad knob up to 11. I’ve read that at least some of it has to do with the actual content creators though.. apparently monetized accounts can turn the frequency of ads up for more money. So it might partially be a function of the specific accounts you’re watching lately.

See, this is where I wonder how YT Premium will play out. Creators start seeing less revenue from ads as more people go to a paid subscription so they increase the amount of ads driving more to subscriptions. Eventually, they’ll have no choice but to start putting ads in the subscription service.

Not at all. It is easy to tell AI crap from real people discussing whatever subject I want to watch.

I guess you need to try convincing the investors who have driven the stock price up 70% over the last ) months.

This is how it always goes. Then they'll have a YouTube Premium DIAMOND you can upgrade to for just a liiiiittle bit more per month if you don't want the totally unobtrusive ads that they'll now squeeze into the normal premium subscription

without looking into it, I'd guess we converger towards the max % of the population that'd get a sub before this becomes a bigger issue.

just pay for youtube premium.

I held out for a looong time and swore I'd never pay for it. But I tried out a month long free trial and couldn't go back. Bastards.

I've noticed, and it is so much worse on the TV app. Watching on my phone has noticeably more ads than it used to, but they are overwhelming on the Roku app. The part that makes it almost unwatchable is the placement of the ads. There is no rhyme or reason, ads are just thrown in wherever. It makes watching a chore.

No i pay to not see ads and i think it's worth it. I watch a lot of YouTube and don't have any ads other then the ones creators put in the video which are easy to skip

This.

The more annoying thing for me is the AI voices people are putting on videos.

Without reading the entire thread, so sorry if already posted:

For the most part, the frequency of ads is set by the video maker, not YouTube. With that said, Premium Lite is worth every penny, in my opinion. And it seems very few people realize it exists.

My only gripe is that as a YouTube TV member since 2020 or so, YT Premium should be included in that package, or at least at a discount.
Same. You would think they would add that in as a benefit

Not available in the US. Is it available if you use a VPN?

Seems like it’d be fairly straightforward to have a separate payout per view (or per minute? I’m not sure how it’s actually done today) on premium accounts.

The trick for YouTube is figuring out how to structure that, since their incremental revenue per view on premium accounts is dependent on how much content that account actually watches.

Still.. you would think that they make more money per minute streamed on premium accounts than they make on free accounts. So they could probably just match the payout for max monetization and move on.

Firefox with UBlock Origin

You can also use UBlock with Chrome. You'll get no ads on YouTube. Having said that, YouTube premium is my most important subscription service. If I wasn't such a sports nut, it's all I would need.

Side note.. what really pisses me off on the YouTube mobile app is how they sometimes wait until right before the skip button shows up then have a link pop up in the side pane right where the skip button would be, to make you hit the link instead of the button. I’m sure somebody thought they were clever as shite when they came up with that trick.
