Preds are my local but the Habs have been my team for over 40 years. I do pull for the Preds too tho.

It will be interesting to see if there is a resurgence of minor league hockey like there was after USA won gold before. There used to be several clubs in every state.
It has already hit Georgia.
We don't have a NHL team though.
I watched the Athens Rock Lobsters versus a team from Columbus GA and the game was awesome. There is also a team in Macon.

They’re the reason I’m a Minnesota Wild fan. Aeros used to be their AHL affiliate when I was growing up. Also love the avs since I’m in Denver, but that’s easy because they’re one of the top teams. Love the Wild though. The hockey socks I wear in beer league are wild colors

Any sport is more fun and more intense in person but hockey takes it to a whole different level, especially if you get seats by the glass.
I'd advise going to a minor league game before an NHL game. Obviously more affordable but also more fan friendly. Plus, many minor league games have more and better quality fights than many UFC cards.
Las Vegas had an ECHL team before the Golden Knights formed. Each year just before Christmas, one Wranglers home game was designated as the "Midnight Roundup" game, with puck drop at 11:59pm. It was definitely a fun people watching experience.

I saw a couple of minor league hockey games in Baton Rouge in person and they were really fun to watch live. In many ways better than football. I would love to see two NHL teams live that are really good.

I gravitated to the Devils.
Hellebuyck reminded me of Martin Brodeur with his performance in the Olympics.

Espn+ makes this easier than ever. Watch a team out-of-market, and pick up who you gravitate towards.
I followed Arizona for a few years as a result.
Seattle is interesting, and fun to watch. They're new, so that makes it easier. They have excellent sweaters and colors. This is who I've picked up since Arizona relocated.
Vegas is an excellent organization, and Jack Eichel is on their squad. Their fan experience is the weirdest, quirkiest in the league, but it works for them in spades.
Utah Mammoth have a lot of young talent, and are an easy bandwagon to jump on.
Nashville isn't nearly as good as they should be, considering their roster, but they have a distinct identity and a great sweater.
The Panthers have been an excellent organization since their rebrand under new ownership.
The Hurricanes play a style that is very easy to enjoy.
You literally cannot go wrong. Just avoid a Canadian franchise. That's asking for perpetual heartbreak, combined with an unearned sense of arrogance.

Only problem - I have no local team
I guess this will be like NFL where I am following players rather than teams.
Not in any way trying to be demeaning. Do you fully understand icing and offside?

Follow the Minnesota Wild.
Quinn Hughes
Brock Faber
Matt Boldy
Kirill Kaprizov
Joel Eriksson Ek
Etc.
Wild are good, stacked, and fun to watch. American from the State of Hockey, and that's a bonus because the production and intermission and post game stuff is top notch and has a local flavor to it, so they have all sorts of stuff on the youth, high school, and college scene in Minnesota.

Following players instead of teams is actually a fun way to watch. These Olympics definitely showed off some incredible talent.
It makes the transition to the NHL or other leagues much easier when you’re just chasing the highlights.

Fully, no. Somewhat, yes

I would watch some YouTube videos and get that locked in.
Also hand passes, high stick (when playing the puck) delay of game. I think those are all the procedure penalties.
Most of the penalties are pretty straight forward.
Goaltender interference, the league video review team can't even consistently apply that especially when it comes to the Blue Jackets so don't worry about understanding that

Their GM, Bill Guerin, was also the GM for the US Team. Good call.
I used to hate the Wild when they first got started under Jacques Lemaire, and they played the ugliest brand of hockey. But they've really grown on me in the last few years.

The Greatest Hockey Team in the US is the Detroit Red Wings. Original Six and most Stanley Cups of any US based team. Great history of Howe and the Production Line up to now. Though the 70s and 80s were not the best of times. You also can't go wrong following Montreal and Toronto for historical sake.

I was a Jeremy Roenick fan back in the day bc he was the best on Sega, go hawks.(hated the red wings) followed him to the coyotes with Keith Tkachuk.
don't watch like I used to.
