Finally broke down and got my wife a new Tahoe. Been a long time since I purchased a new vehicle. Trying to find the interval and seeing a lot of different numbers.

Consult your owners manual but I believe it is the normal oil change interval.
I follow what the vehicle tells me to do.

I ran my Suburban and Silverado till the “change oil soon” light showed on the display, change oil is set for 7500 miles and the change oil soon will come on about 700-1000 miles before that. I’ve used Mobil 1 in all my GM vehicles and have never had an engine problem. 2008 Avalanche had 242,700 miles on it when I sold it and never used oil or smoked.
Transmissions are what you’ll have to keep an eye on with GM vehicles.

How Often Should You Change Your Oil. Food for thought.
The person who wrote the article and owner of the shop located in BR on his weekly automotive radio program I recall stating for a brand new vehicle he personally liked to change the filter only, not the oil, at 1500 miles, picks up stray metal pieces from the machining process. He’s a strong advocate of 3K mile oil change intervals for common stop & go driving which is explained in the article. It’s more about replacing the additives in the oil that are depleted or diluted more quickly than the loss of lubricating properties of the oil.

If I owned a shop that’s what I would advocate as well.
To the OP the Tahoe will recomend the oil being changed at a prescribed mileage.
I had a 2007 Silverado that had 250k miles on it when I sold it and had changed oil on prescribed oil change interval.

5-6k miles is what I use. Been buying Yukons since ‘95, have never had an engine oil lubrication issue…

Every 3000 miles has served me well, 262k on my avalanche

Make certain to get a quality filter(always). Change both the oil and filter at 2500-3000 miles. Past that the "change oil soon" light system is indeed very accurate. I'd have every confidence using the schedule outlined in the owner's manual.

The oil companies will say every 100 miles but with synthetic it's good for at least 10K

Doesn't the App tell you when your vehicle needs service ?
I have a new F150 and it was 8,000 miles - first service.

First oil change - 3,500 miles.
Every other one 5,000 miles. Don’t care what the manual says.

There's a book in the glove box.

I've always changed the oil after about the first 700 miles. Then after that I follow a regular oil schedule that is listed in the manual.

This, both my vehicles get 5,000 mile OCI's on full synthetic oil and OEM filters. Neither vehicle sees "severe" service but with modern oils it's less of a concern even with the heat as I don't have a commute where I'm routinely stuck in traffic or have much stop-and-go.

quote:Break-in oil really isnt a thing on modern vehicles. Your Tahoe will tell you when to get the oil changed (normally around 7500 miles). You can actually go well above that.

I get my oil tested through Blackstone and at 7500 miles I still have between 40-50% of actual oil life remaining (2019 Sierra).
But with a new vehicle just change it when the info on your dash cluster says so that there isn’t any issue if you have a warranty claim.

Change it when the computer tells you. Don't over complicate it.
