Owl Attacks My Partner’s Popping Frog

We fished a tournament at Eufaula this weekend. Two years ago, we had an owl attack my buddy’s bait. It dove at the bait three separate times before flying off. At the time, I was so shocked that I didn’t get a pic or video. Well, this weekend my buddy is throwing his frog again and got attacked. This time, I knew what to do and managed to get a video of the second and third attack.

I mean that in the most sincere way possible, because that's a badass story

I was fishing a small private pond one day and there was a squirrel sitting about a foot off the surface of the water on an overhanging limb, calmly eating an acorn. I heard a big fish break water and spun around just in time to see a bass, about 10 pounds, grab that squirrel. I was amazed...imagine seeing such a site. About 10 minutes later I heard a huge fish break water again in the same area and spun around and I'll be damned if that big arse bass hadn't set that damned acorn back on that limb.....

I either caught a bat or a bat caught me, its a matter of perspective, casting a zara spook at dusk on a private pond....the damn thing dove on that plug as it was flying through the air and I guess it got hooked accidentally. I reeled the nasty bastard in and got him off the hook but it wasn't a pleasant experience for me or him....

Caught an owl on a jitter bug at dusk when I was a kid. Reeled him in and my uncle unhooked him. It was pissed and bit a chunk out of his welding glove. It was as cool as catching a 10 lb bass for 10 year old me. RIP Uncle Don.

That’s some muddy water, I would have thrown a 1/2 oz chartreuse chatterbait. Cool wildlife interaction though.

Very cool.
Not as cool as an owl but I have caught (unintentionally) a pelican (many times), as well as quite a few species of sea gulls (the big and small ones).
Pelican pro tip: grab him by the beak after he tries to bite you. After that you can control him easy peasy.

Fish a lot of saltwater in South LA marshes, and I constantly have pelicans chasing after top water baits. You literally have to pull your line in quickly so they don't grab it.

Can someone link me to the damn video?
I've checked back in here, and looked for the "other thread" and I can't find anything.

I had that happen on Four Mile Bayou. I've also had raptors swoop down and try to snatch duck decoys.

Catching birds inshore and offshore is pretty much standard procedure for me for some reason. The nastiest bastards are Frigate Birds....they are meaner than shite and full of it also...damned nasty animall.
When I was a kid I would crab with a chicken neck, a spinning rod and a net. Y'all know the drill...toss the chicken neck out, wait until a crab starts dining and slowing drag him to the net. This would be fun for a couple of hours and then boredom would set in. I noticed a pelican diving at the chicken neck when I tossed it out and thought "thats a big fricking bird". Keep in mind there was not a hook involved...tied the chicken neck to the fishing line. When I got bored catching crabs I would toss the chicken neck up in the air and inevitably a pelican would swoop down and grab it. I would leave the bail open and let the bastard thing he had made good his escape....until he was 100 yards or so away and I would close the bail. It was a little like flying a kite for a little while....they usually tried to fly a few feet and hit the water and that was it....but every once in a while one would try to fly away and it was kind of like having a cargo model airplane on a spinning rod. The one thing they almost never did until I got them in hand is spit out the chicken neck....no matter how much indignity they suffered or how much derisions was cast there way by other pelicans and seagulls they would hold onto that chicken neck as it were the difference between life and death. They could spit it out at any time, there wasn't a hook in it and the bastards can vomit on demand...but I suppose they were of the opinion that they had found it and it was there's....whatever their thinking was on the subject they seldom spit out the chicken neck until I had them in hand and they realized that the cost of freedom was a nasty old chicken neck they didn't really want to begin with....

It’s weird. Video loads fine on my phone, but not on my pc at work?

And I thought taping old razor blades to the leading edges and having “kite fights” with my buddies as a kid was redneck….
You Louisiana baws are a bit “different”
;). LOL

Was fishing at City Park in Nola a couple of years ago and an Osprey kept going after my frog. He did it five times in a row.
Even when I reeled it in and the frog was hanging in the air, the a-hole came after it again.
