Who cares if it overpowers the White House!
Does the White House host a thousand of guest at one time?
No it does not!
It’s a house. Not a banquet and event center.
Let the Kong build what he wants, quit being a snowflake

It'll look fine when it's all said and done with matching architecture and the natural environment around it. People bitching about this are ridiculous. Trump MIGHT get to use thing in his final year if construction doesn't have any hiccups. He's literally giving the fricking country a gift and you fricking losers can't help yourself.

Great man, he is building something for future presidents to enjoy. He might get to use it maybe a year or so.

You'd be wrong. The WH has been rennovated repeatedly, as recently as Obama's private basketball arena and literally no gave a frick.
Your lack of concern is exactly what I’m talking about
Turnaabout is fair play.
They did it so we do it.
Tit for tat.
2 wrongs make it right.
When does it end?

It’s roughly 2x the size of the White House and it going to overpower it in pictures moving forward.
Not to worry he will balance it out on the other side in his third term.

I don't care. Get the deficit under control.

If Trump built a cancer wing for children cancer patients and a children’s hospital, the left would still be crying. Trump really needs to have a press conference and say how good oxygen is for you and research conducted by him shows that putting a plastic bag over your head, and sealing it tightly is bad and can lead to brain damage.

This is what Trump does.
It is going to be great.

Why would anyone be legitimately concerned about a ballroom being attached to the white house?

it looks interesting from this photo

Have you ever been to a Trump property?
He does beautiful work.

Great point. They should make a tiny ballroom because those are super useful

Except no one ever thought any of that rose to the level of a “wrong”.
Until now of course. And why do you think that is?

Oh I forgot. You don’t get invited to parties .. do you? Sometimes, there are lots of people there and you need lots of space. Let me know if you have any questions.

1. I have no problem with the notion of adding a ballroom to the White House. Large and important state functions in MOST countries are USUALLY held in the executive residence (or the palace in some cases). The USA has been one of the most-powerful nations on the planet for well more than a century, and it is a bit ridiculous that we do not have the infrastructure to do so.
2. Comparisons to Obama are stupid. First, the big ($370mm) item during Obama's term was a result of Congressional authorization during the Bush-43 administration, and it was almost entirely a matter of doing triage for badly outdated infrastructure. Comparable to Truman's renovations in many ways.
3. Obama himself initiated only about $1.5mm in renovations, covered almost entirely by private donations. Comparisons to the "basketball" issue are especially ridiculous. It consisted of painting some additional lines on the existing tennis court and bringing-in a mobile basketball hoop and backboard. They even left the wheels on the thing, so they would move it to the side, if someone wanted to play tennis.
4. The sheer SIZE of Trump's new East Wing (mostly consisting of a "yuge" ballroom) is a different issue. While the addition will NOT (as some Chicken Littles have claimed) "tower" over the residence, its footprint is indeed much larger than the residence itself. Aesthetically, no matter now nice the architecture, it is going to look like a pair of DDDD saline bags attached to the frame of a 110 pound girl. It seems to me that something more in keeping with the scale of the rest of the complex would have been more appropriate.
5. For whatever reason, Trump never saw anything that he did not try to cover in gaudy gold gilding (wealth and good taste do not always coincide), and it seems that this is also what he has in mind for this facility. Sometimes "less is more," and the style of the White House has always been one of "understated elegance" (not unlike Melania's personal style, TBH). One need look no further than the Trump renovations to the Oval Office and the Cabinet Room to imagine the excess we will be seeing in this ballroom. Fortunately, that sort of detail can always be "toned-down" by later administrations using better decorators.
