Just imagine the shakedowns going on in these "closed door" meetings.

What a bunch of losers! They are all criminals laundering our taxes.

Kevin McCarthy’s ego . He can’t keep the smirk off his face. I have a hard time seeing him now without thinking he should be wearing a velvet cape and crown. And maybe one of those thin cigarettes with an ivory cigarette holder.

Jordan needs 65 votes. Now errybody going home.

Such meetings shouldn’t even exist.
They work on behalf of the people; this isn’t their private club.
Government’s lack of total transparency is worthy of all the scorn that can be heaped upon it.

55 GOP said they will not vote for him, so he will not win. Not much point in bringing it to a vote. The GOP can’t find a clown to drive the clown car over the cliff.

But Jordan winning over Scalise is a HUGE POSITIVE sign

Jordan didn’t beat Scalise. Scalise won, saw his impending math problem, and dropped out. Jordan has an even worse math problem.

Because it’s not a cult like the dem party.

Go figure.

At least Jim has voted the way I want on pretty much every single thing.

I misread the OP thinking that Jordan had secured enough votes to get the speakership.

Having the majority votes of the Republican caucus isn’t really meaningful.

So he picked up 25 vote from earlier this week.

Still a long way to go. My guess is the "RINOs" will exact payback. They are not going to reward the far right.

And I got downvoted in another thread just for saying Scalise stepping away from this would put Jordan as the likely winner.

What about this makes you think he's suddenly the winner? The other guy got 90+ votes. Jordan isn't universally loved by the Republicans either.

I don’t disagree with you but what actually goes on in DC has long suggested otherwise.

For sure.
Government has gone mental.
They’ve totally lost sight of their role.

I didn't say he's "suddenly the winner", I said he's "the likely winner" (read: presumed front-runner) and the votes since Scalise bowed out only underscore that (regardless of how butthurt it makes the downvoters).

When Scalise ran against Jordan, he won 113-99 (54%-46%).
When Jordan ran against Austin Scott (after Scalise dropped), he won 124-81 (60%-40%) in the first vote and then 152-55 (73%-27%) in the second vote.

Had Scalise stayed in, he likely would have won. He didn't and the momentum seems to be in Jordan's favor.

I'm not sure where all the pearl-clutching over such a statement is coming from as it's damned near self-evident.

It’s not pearl clutching. It’s understanding how this works. He can get 90% of those 55 who voted against him the second time and still not be there. They are not going to reward him and his supporters for this. It’s won’t happen.

But the unraveling of the House Republican majority could very likely lead to the Dems flipping the majority in 2024 - at which point the spending situation will become even yet much worse.

If the dems take the house in 2024 and keep the senate its says more about the voters across America than some bitch slapping infighting of the RNC.

That’s what’s happening.

It’s not a terrible thing. The pressure will build on them as everyone else suddenly starts looking like the adults in the room.
